Re: [Public WebGL] WEBGL_compressed_texture_s3tc is now enabled in Firefox Nightly

Extremely well supported on Windows, Linux less so when using open-source drivers due to patents on S3TC, but can be re-enabled with a library for countries where software patents don't apply.

Any ideas how widely supported this extension is on desktop machines?

Hello everyone, I'm happy to announce that the WEBGL_compressed_texture_s3tc extension has been enabled in today's Firefox Nightly. If you would like to try it out, please download at http://nightly.mozilla.org. As it's still a draft extension, it's vendor-prefixed with MOZ_, so you need to use the string "MOZ_WEBGL_compressed_texture_s3tc" to enable it in your code.

Here are some links to test it out:
* Demo that Brandon Jones did for WebGL Camp #4 - http://media.tojicode.com/webgl-samples/dds.html
* WebGL Texture Loader library that supports DDS textures also by Brandon Jones - https://github.com/toji/webgl-texture-utils

Thanks, Jon
