Neil Trevett presented “Khronos Graphics, Compute and Vision APIs – including Vulkan Next Generation GPU Acceleration” at SIGGRAPH Asia on December 7th. Included in this presentation is information about the new Neural Networking Exchange Format (NNEF) working group and the new Khronos VR Initiative.
Khronos Group is at SIGGRAPH this week. If you are going be sure to bookmark our SIGGRAPH event page containing our complete list of BOFs and Khronos related sessions. We’ll have free t-shirts, a Chapters BOF on Tuesday, several Khronos Tech BOFs on Wednesday as well as our famous After Party BOF Blitz where you can meet, ask questions and eat with some of the folks behind the Khronos technologies. Our Wednesday line-up includes:
The Brenwill Workshop Ltd. will launch MoltenVK, an implementation of Vulkan that runs on iOS and macOS, during the SIGGRAPH conference in Anaheim, California, and will discuss and demonstrate MoltenVK at the Khronos Vulkan Birds of a Feather session at SIGGRAPH, on Wednesday, July 27th, 2016. Learn more about MoltenVK.
The schedules for the all-day Khronos BOF Blitz and famous BOF Blitz After Party are now online. Featuring four BOFs on Wednesday July 27th, and a 5th BOF on Tuesday July 26th for Khronos Chapters. We’ve also compiled a list of all the SIGGRAPH sessions, courses, workshops and BOFs that contain Khronos Technology. Unsurprisingly there is a ton of Vulkan stuff going on this year. Checkout the event page today. Hope to see lots of you in Anaheim during SIGGRAPH!
For all the folks at SC15, if you are wondering where to find OpenCL on the show floor, StreamComputing has a great starter list, and don’t forget about our own event page, which lists all the OpenCL related events happening at SC15.
The slides from Khronos Group President Neil Trevett at SIGASIA 2015 are now online. The WebGL course slides from SIGASIA are also online, including: Building 3D Web Applications Using WebGL; Building Google Maps on WebGL; Intro to WebGL with Three.js and WebGL 2.0.
Khronos will be on the west side of the SC15 hall in booth #285. Technical experts will be available to answer your questions and there will be OpenCL 2.1 and SYCL reference guides to give away. The Khronos BOF “Flocking Together: Experience the Diverse OpenCL Ecosystem” starts off with an overview of the OpenCL 2.1 C++ kernel language, the SYCL 2.1 abstraction layer, and SPIR. Following the presentation, attendees are invited to bring their code and their toughest questions. Attendees will have the opportunity to experiment with implementations and tools from multiple vendors across several platforms. The BoF session is geared for those experienced with OpenCL, it will also provide an opportunity for newcomers to ask questions both basic and technical of our experts from the OpenCL working group as well as those from various participating vendors. Be sure to visit the Khronos DevU tutorial “Portable programs for heterogeneous computing: a hands-on introduction” on Monday November 16th. Details on all of these events and much more are available on the official Khronos event page.
ReFLEX CES, an established ALTERA Design Service Network (DSN) member will showcase at SC15 a High Performance Computing OpenCL Board Support Package demonstration based on its Attila Arria 10 GX Instant-DevKit. The Attila HPC OpenCL BSP abstracts the hardware layer from the programmer and allow to him, even if little or no skills on FPGA development, a quick and easy way to run his algorithms on a 100% FPGA accelerator target.
Running November 2-8, the 8th edition of SIGGRAPH Asia brings together more than 7,000 of the world’s leading computer animation experts, researchers, technologists, graphics pioneers and trade visitors from close to 50 countries around the world. Both a conference and a trade exhibition, SIGGRAPH Asia is taking place in the vibrant and eclectic city of Kobe, Japan, at the Kobe Convention Center, to help further grow and foster strong connections with important communities in Asia. Featuring about 80 participating companies from Asia and beyond, the SIGGRAPH Asia 2015 Exhibition demonstrates the versatility of computer graphics today. Among the leading names that will be showcasing their latest works and innovations are Amazon Data Services, Christie Digital Systems, Digital Hollywood Japan, Forum8, Google, Intel Corporation, Isotropix, Khronos Group, Polygon Magic and PIXAR Animation Studios.
Khronos is proud to announce four upcoming Chapter meetups! Since SIGGRAPH 2015 the Khronos Group Chapters have grown considerably. Upcoming in September alone there will be a meetup in Hobart Australia (Sept 22), New York (Sept 22), Milano (Sept 30) and finally Austin Texas (Nov 23). Is there no Chapter in your area? Let us know if you are interested in starting one.
glTF is an up and coming format for transmitting 3D models, tailored for WebGL and OpenGL they like to think of it as a 3D model codec. There’s three.js and Node.js support, as well as a COLLADA and separate FBX converter. There’s more explanation of glTF in the presentation at the WebGL BOF. Compression progress here, discussion here. Special thanks to Patrick Cozzi and the folks over at Real-Time Rendering Blog.
Imagination is partnering with Google to demonstrate an advanced prototype of the new Vulkan graphics API on Android. The Gnome Horde demo will be unveiled during a presentation at SIGGRAPH 2015 and runs on the PowerVR GPU inside the Nexus Player device from Google. Gnome Horde is designed to showcase the capability of Vulkan to meet the needs of the Android graphics developer community. The article below offers a complete technical description of the demo, including a video and multiple screenshots illustrating how Vulkan on PowerVR leads to improvements in performance and energy consumption.
