OpenGL Insights includes a detailed OpenGL 4.2 and OpenGL ES 2.0 pipeline map as a two-sided 14x18 inch detachable color poster. The map cross-references the OpenGL 4.2 and ES 2.0 specs. The ES pipeline is relevant to both ES and WebGL developers. You may also download a high resolution PDF version directly from the OpenGL Insights website.
COLLADA digital asset schema specification for 3D visualization of industrial data has just been published as ISO/PAS 17506:2012 by the International Organization for Standardization.
The complete COLLADA BOF video set is now online. Presentations cover Remi Arnaud of Screampoint, Marco Tillmann, Nathan Letwory, Uli Klumpp from Smith Micro and Daniel Meiwes from Oregon State University.
All of the presentation slides from the COLLADA BOF are available online. Including the introduction by Rita Turkowski you can view Extensions Mechanism by Remi Arnaud, Molly3D, Rightwares and Kanzi Presentations, COLLADA Web Viewer from Brandon Pearse and Ryan Lepinski of Oregon State and Uli Klumpp’s presentation on Publishing 3D Characters using Poser Pro and Photoshop CS5.
Okino Computer Graphics announced that its long standing 3D DCC/Animation/Skinning and CAD/MCAD/Architectural conversion software PolyTrans-for-3ds-Max (for 3ds Max 2011 & 3ds Max Design 2011), and PolyTrans-for-Maya (for Maya 2011), are now fully qualified and shipping to customers. Self proclaimed the defacto standard for conversion between visualization packages, and with good reason. Included in the many conversion formats are our two favourite: COLLADA and OpenGL C Code.
AGI adds COLLADA support to their STK mission-proven software application for modeling, engineering and operations of space, cyberspace, C4ISR, UAVs, missile defense and electronic systems.
Immaginaria Ltd is proud to announce a major update to TNGViewer, featuring support for the Open Asset Import Library, which provides access to several different 3D file formats. These include modo .lxo, DirectX .x, Stanford Polygon Library .ply, Stereolithography .stl, Object File Format .off and many more. importing COLLADA .dae files is also much improved; previously supported types such as 3D Studio .3ds, Alias|Wavefront .obj and so on are imported better as well. File formats that contain keyframe and skinning animation use dynamic OpenGL VBOs for performance. Furthermore, a fallback Direct3D 9 renderer is available on Windows, on any machine without decent OpenGL drivers. Finally, several interface and display issues have been fixed on Windows and Mac OS X.
COLLADA import/export in DAZ 3D offers a step towards full interoperability between Carrara and DAZ Studio. Now you can export figures, conforming clothing, morphs and scenes from DAZ Studio into Carrara. A key new ingredient to this cross-functionality is support for “sparse morph” data. This allows you to transfer large amounts of morph data within smaller files for greater speed. DAZ 3D pioneered this technology for the COLLADA file format and DAZ Studio is the first application to use this new technique. Dynamic clothing can also now be exported as part of a COLLADA file using the new “Freeze Simulation” feature. Available as part of the Dynamic Clothing plugin, Freeze Simulation is used to convert dynamic clothing simulations into static morph data. The same data can then be imported into your Carrara scenes.
Autodesk® Softimage® 2011 introduces innovative new rendering and animation tools that help artists create more complex, high quality characters and effects in less time. Included in the new features is Crosswalk 5.0, which will allow you to transfer Softimage content in and out of Autodesk 3ds Max® and Autodesk Maya® software pipelines using the latest dotXSI, COLLADA, and FBX standards.
COLLADA will be sponsoring a session at GDC on Friday March 12th 2010. Attend the COLLADA session to discover how COLLADA assets and tool chains fit naturally with WebGL’s acceleration of 3D on the web - and how the combination of COLLADA and WebGL provide a compelling 3D pipeline for 3D Web content creation and deployment. Also learn about the new COLLADA 1.4 Conformance Test Suite for Khronos Adopters.
Rightware’s Kanzi SDK offers the missing link to chain today’s mainstream 3D graphics content creation tools, such as 3DS Max, Maya and XSI with cell phones and other mobile devices. Artists will be able to export their UI base designs from the software packages to Kanzi SDK using COLLADA data format. Kanzi also sports a unified pipeline for OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenGL ES 1.x based 3D graphics, with the engine able to run real-time streaming data, texture and fragment shaders, as well as multi-texturing and dynamic lighting.
Leadwerks Engine now integrates the COLLADA file format into its content pipeline. Convert COLLADA .dae files to the Leadwerks Game Model Format (.gmf) or just load .dae files directly in the engine.
