Vivante Corporation announced multiple silicon partner integrations of its GC7000 Series GPU IP into SoCs targeting wearables, mobile, automotive, and 4K TV products. GC7000 supports the newly released OpenGL ES 3.1* API and hardware TS/GS/CS (tessellation / geometry / compute shader) extensions for Android. Product is based on a published Khronos OpenGL ES 3.1 Specification, and is expected to pass the Khronos Conformance Testing Process. Along with a plethora of updates from Apple, WebGL is now present by default on iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. The folks over at Ludei have run a couple of tests: “We have downloaded and installed iOS 8 beta on an iPad2 and thanks to the CocoonJS Launcher App, that offers access to both the System WebView and to Canvas+, we have been able to confirm that WebGL support is for both mobile Safari and the webview.”
The Open Toolkit is an advanced, high-performance C# OpenGL and OpenGL ES binding. The latest version improves startup performance by up to 20x, adds OpenGL ES documentation tooltips, and improves Linux and MacOS support. OpenTK is used in commercial and non-commercial applications and is available for desktop and mobile platforms.

Unity Technologies has unveiled Unity 5, the next generation of Unity multiplatform engine and development tools. Unity 5 brings a wealth of new capabilities and features enabling all developers to create amazing games and interactive experiences, and painlessly deploy them to almost any platform. Unity 5 will see the launch of the integrated Unity Cloud ad-sharing network for cross-promotion of mobile games, and an addition to Unity’s multiplatform support with the introduction of WebGL deployment.
The new Soft Kitty OpenGL ES 3.0 demo shows that, with our latest PowerVR Series6 GPUs, it is possible to render animated fur covered characters in real time on mobile devices. The final demo runs at >30fps at resolutions higher than Full HD driven by a PowerVR Rogue GPU. Soft Kitty will also be on display at the Imagination booth (#402) at GDC 2014.
The Khronos Group has announced the immediate release of the OpenGL ES 3.1 specification, bringing significant functionality enhancements to the industry-leading, royalty-free 3D graphics API that is used on nearly all of the world’s mobile devices. OpenGL ES 3.1 will provide the most desired features of desktop OpenGL 4.4 in a form suitable for mobile devices. The OpenGL ES registry is up-to-date with the latest Specifications, head files and reference pages. We look forward to hearing what you think about this release.
Imagination Technologies has announced that an advanced GPU accelerated VP9 software decoder for its industry-leading PowerVR Series6 Rogue GPUs is available from Imagination’s strategic partner MulticoreWare. Developed in partnership with Google, the OpenCL based decoder supports playback of YouTube video at 1080p, 30fps, providing a low-power solution for HD video on devices such as mobile devices, tablets, connected TVs and other products. With this new decoder, existing products with PowerVR Series6 GPUs can now play VP9 generated content.
Squid Systems announced at Mobile World Congress the availability of its highly efficient HEVC decoder software for mobile devices. The Squid decoder software operates on popular mobile processors based on ARM Limited designs and on processors made by Intel Corporation, and includes OpenCL optimization to exploit the processing power of popular GPUs available on mobile processors.
