Limitless Computing announced SightSpace Pro, a cloud-based and mobile solution that makes it possible to view 3D digital models and designs in the form of real-life buildings using Augmented Reality technology. The new SightSpace Pro works seamlessly with the most popular modeling and design file formats including Autodesk .DWG and .DXF, Trimble SketchUp (.SKP), Collada (.DAE), .DGN, .KMZ, and .KML.

Qualcomm officially unveiled its latest mobile chip, the Snapdragon 820. According to Engadget the new Snapdragon is equipped with an Adreno 530 GPU which is around 40 percent faster than the 810’s graphics. The Snapdragon 820 supports both OpenGL ES up to 3.1 and OpenCL 2.0.

Facebook’s new SDK for Unity v7.1 provides the opportunity for Unity developers to better integrate their games with Facebook. The new update includes full support for Unity 5, support for the new WebGL build target and Facebook’s latest native mobile SDKs with new tools and features. The Facebook SDK for Unity complements Unity’s cross-platform support, providing a pure-Unity write-once, run-everywhere experience across the gaming platforms of WebGL, Unity Web Player, Android and iOS.
Imagination’s R&D group has developed a face detection algorithm using OpenCL, which is based on a classifier cascade and is optimized to run on mobile devices comprising a CPU and PowerVR GPU.

Get Hands-on with Mobile Graphics! “An Introduction to Mobile Graphics” are one day workshops offered by Imagination Technologies in North London. At Universities, graphics technologies are generally taught as part of game development or the computer science curriculum, and are based on standard console or PC graphics. Since mobile devices are becoming increasingly popular, it is important that developers also understand the specific constraints of mobile devices where power-efficient rendering is a must. Imagination is partnering with Darren McKie (games and graphics programme leader at the University of Hull) to organize a workshop designed to introduce real-time rendering using OpenGL ES on mobile devices to students who have little or no prior experience with 3D graphics programming.
The Khronos Group announced significantly expanded scope and momentum for its family of open standard 3D graphics APIs. Vulkan™, the new generation API for high-efficiency access to graphics and compute on modern GPUs, is on track for implementation and specifications later this year. It has received support from Android, SteamOS, Tizen, and multiple Linux distributions, including Ubuntu and Red Hat. The new OpenGL® ES 3.2 specification absorbs AEP (Android Extension Pack) functionality to enhance pervasive graphics capabilities across mobile, consumer, and automotive devices. A set of OpenGL extensions will also expose the very latest capabilities of desktop hardware.

Imagination Technologies announces a new offering as part of its Imagination University Programme (IUP) that provides the first complete teaching course on mobile graphics. “An Introduction to Mobile Graphics” includes a rich set of teaching materials and practical exercises that leverage Imagination’s popular PowerVR graphics processors (GPUs). The new course has been developed so that little to no previous knowledge of graphics is required, and the content is adaptable to fit most teaching methods and structures. This introductory course is based around OpenGL ES 2.0, the most widely deployed and adopted mobile graphics API.
PlayCanvas announces Physically Based Rendering is now available via WebGL. Over the past 3 years since PlayCanvas started, WebGL adoption has skyrocketed. WebGL now supported in every major browser, both on mobile and the desktop. Current statistics show that 82.7% of web users have the ability to run WebGL content, and this number continues to rise. The PlayCanvas ‘Star-Lord Demo’ shows that WebGL is perfectly capable of implementing PBR and other high-end graphical features.
The Khronos Group will be at SIGGRAPH Asia this coming weekend. Neil Trevett, Khronos Group President and VP of Mobile Content at NVIDIA will be speaking. There will be a panel session “Next Frontiers For Interactive Applications” on Saturday followed by a tech-talk “What’s Next In Graphics APIs?” on Saturday December 6th which will cover the rapidly changing landscape of acceleration APIs for mobile devices and the Next Generation OpenGL Initiative first revealed at SIGGRAPH 2014.
Urban Galaxy Online is a MMORPG built entirely on HTML5 technologies. Its graphics are powered by the WebGL renderer of the popular three.js engine. The game was built by a small team of 3 developers during the last 5 years, betting on WebGL while the standard was still shaping up and browser support was partial. The annual Augmented Reality Conference hosted by Metaio - InsideAR - will be held in Munich, Germany on October 29-30th. Neil Trevett will be presenting on Bringing Spatial Awareness to Mobile AR including Google Project Tango and Advances in Mobile Sensing – and will provide insights on how Khronos APIs can be used to accelerate advanced AR applications. Metaio hosts InsideAR in Munich, Tokyo and Beijing, and had great success last year with more than 800 participants from industry, research, OEMs and developers.
