Imagination submits PowerVR Series6 cores for OpenGL ES 3.0 conformance

Imagination Technologies announces that it is among the first to submit PowerVR Series6 ‘Rogue’ drivers for OpenGL ES 3.0 conformance with Khronos. Designed for the latest APIs, including OpenGL ES 3.0, PowerVR Series6 is already shipping in end user product. Product is based on a published Khronos Specification, and is expected to pass the Khronos Conformance Testing Process. Current conformance status can be found online.

Computational photography with ImgTec PowerVR SGX GPU and Khronos OpenCL and EGL

Imagination Technologies has developed a set of extensions to allow image conversion on the fly, using the Khronos Groups OpenCL and EGL technology. ImgTec converts the camera YUV data to RGB using the OES_EGL_image_external extension, and then use PowerVR’s zero-copy functionality to directly access the camera texture data from OpenCL. Imagination Technologies has announced a new camera Image Signal Processing (ISP) architecture codenamed ‘Raptor.’ Imagination designed the PowerVR Series2 ‘Raptor’ imaging pipeline architecture from the ground-up to be optimized for integration into next-generation System-on-Chips (SoCs) for a broad range of imaging and vision applications. ‘Raptor’ is also the first ISP designed to operate as a cooperative part of a heterogeneous computing platform for advanced functions and next-generation applications that will be compatible with OpenVX and other APIs used for computer vision.

At CES 2014, Imagination Technologies announced a new line-up of PowerVR Series6XE Rogue graphics processing (GPU) IP cores targeting cost-sensitive, mass-market applications. The new Series6XE family, including the world’s smallest fully-featured OpenGL ES 3.0 and OpenCL-capable GPU core, are designed to enable high-quality graphics and efficient GPU compute performance for products such as entry-level mobile devices and tablets, as well as wearables and other consumer products including DTVs and set-top boxes, in which silicon area and memory bandwidth are limited, but advanced graphics performance is still desired. -
