These OpenGL Programming course help application programmers master platform-independent graphics programming using OpenGL. Students learn to create interactive, animated applications displaying wire-frame and solid 3D models controlled by user input and how to add lighting, textures, and other effects to increase realism. Newer OpenGL topics such as using vertex-buffer objects for better performance, and vertex and fragment shaders for advanced shading techniques are introduced. Derek Gerstmann, University of Western Australia and Justin Hensley, AMD presented the course “OpenCL by Example” at SIGGRAPH ASIA 2010. All course notes and supplementary materials are now available online for download. The course presenters are experts on general-purpose GPU computation and advanced rendering from academia and industry, and have presented papers and tutorials on the topic at SIGGRAPH, Graphics Hardware, Supercomputing, and elsewhere. This course demonstrates how to combine traditional rendering APIs with advanced parallel computation using OpenCL (Open Computing Language), a cross-platform API for programming parallel systems such as GPUs.

Tech Soup announces open registration for its next OpenSceneGraph (OSG) course, October 5-7, 2010, in South Lake Union, Seattle, Washington. This class will teach students everything to be proficient in OSG in a 3-day intensive course. This course covers everything developers need to know to take maximum advantage of OpenSceneGraph from intermediate through advanced. We’ll also take a tour through VirtualPlanetBuilder so you can build geospecific, tiled, paged datasets.

Developers attending the course learn the mechanisms behind effective OSG development from scenegraph creation and manipulation through debugging & optimizing. Through instruction and labs, students build scenes and interact with real code from day one. The course is fast-paced, requires creativity and problem solving, and leaves users with a thorough immersion in OpenSceneGraph. Instruction is hands-on with numerous labs where students directly turn concepts into practical knowledge.

BEALTO has started to offer OpenCL training in Europe. Eric Bainville, founder of BEALTO, is an independent software architect and developer who has written a number of papers and tutorials on OpenCL. He currently offers a one week course once per month in OpenCL. The courses are flexible, allowing each teams need to be met.

The Western Australian Supercomputer Program (WASP) in conjunction with iVEC and the University of Western Australia is currently running an OpenCL course during the 2010 iVEC/WASP summer school programme. The course will concentrate on teaching students the fundamentals of OpenCL with a goal towards helping students gain a fundamental understanding of OpenCL as a technology framework for enabling heterogenous parallel processing.
