AMD announced the initial lineup of keynote speakers for the 2013 AMD Developer Summit, APU13. The third annual three-day event will be held in San Jose, Calif., Nov. 11-14, 2013, where AMD and industry leaders will delve into key market trends regarding next generation software and computing experience development, the emerging Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) standard, and the latest in the use of industry-standard application programming interfaces such as OpenCL™, Microsoft DirectCompute and C++ AMP.
AMD announced it has invested in Nuvixa, Inc, a developer of gesture-based video communication and presentation solutions. Using depth-sensing camera technologies, the Nuvixa StagePresence immersive video presentation tool extracts a presenter from virtually any background environment, and embeds their live video persona within any compatible digital desktop or slide content. Image processing enhancements are only available with OpenCL and AMD accelerated processing units (APUs). This technology creates immersive performance and quality improvements and experience to online audiences.
AMD announced a new set of software development tools and solutions to enable developers to optimize their applications for OpenCL standards. These advanced tools create a foundation for software companies to realize the full potential of the AMD Fusion Family of Accelerated Processing Units (APUs), harnessing the combined compute power of AMD’s high-performance CPUs and GPUs across a wide array of heterogeneous computing platforms. As a result, developers can bring to life innovative experiences like HD video, 3D gaming, video conferencing and intuitive user interfaces, to truly differentiate their applications in the market.
AMD has released the April update of the Catalyst Drivers for their graphics cards. Performance improvements include a new OpenCL runtime that will improve performance on APUs and also for PCIe transfers between a CPU and discrete GPU.
AMD recently renamed their OpenCL Stream SDK to AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing (APP). APP is a set of advanced hardware and software technologies that enable AMD graphics processing cores (GPU), working in concert with the system’s x86 cores (CPU), to accelerate many applications beyond just graphics. This update also offers support for AMD E-Series and C-Series platforms (AMD Fusion APUs).
