Are you having trouble getting start in OpenCL development. Enj has started a tutorial series aimed at developers trying to learn OpenCL from the bottom up, with a focus on practicality.

The case study on OpenCL low poly collision detection is included in the online CMSoft OpenCL tutorials. Highly details descriptions and source code will lead you through an implementation of low polygon collision detection algorithm suitable for engineering assembly analyses. This case study uses OpenGL and Lab3D to display the 3D models.

This tutorial shows basics of setting up OpenCL with a pre-made initializer OpenCLTemplate and covers from very basic vector-sum topics to a real-life OpenCL sample application. This tutorial presents OpenCL C99 sample code.

Apple announced the availability of free iPhone Tech Talks 2009 videos for iPhone Developer Program members. The presentations are given by Apple's Technology Evangelists and take a deep dive into app design and coding techniques. Presentation topics in the videos include: audio development, using video effectively, user interface design, Core Data, OpenGL ES, using Web content, testing and debugging apps, using location and maps, and push notification.

The Khronos Groups WebGL public wiki has added a User Contributions area. If you have a WebGL Utility, Project, Presentation, Tutorial, Framework, Video or WebGL Example code, the WebGL work group invites you to share your contribution with the community. Contribute to the WebGL community today.

NVIDIA is hosting two more seminars over the next few days which cover 'Best Practices for OpenCL Programming', and 'An Introduction to GPU Computing and OpenCL'. The series will cover many topics including C for CUDA, programming to the OpenCL™ API , using DirectCompute and performance optimization techniques. The Webinars are presented by NVIDIA Developer Technology Engineering team and have NVIDIA staff online to answer Questions.

MacResearch has posted part 6 in their series of OpenCL tutorials. In this episode, a real-world code that has been parallelized by porting to the GPU. The use of shared memory to improve performance is covered as well as a discussion of synchronization points for coordinated work within a work-group. Source code is provided.

With the launch of Snow Leopard this Friday, now is the time to start getting revved up for some of the new technologies coming with this release. One of them, OpenCL. MacResearch.org has done a great overview of what OpenCL is and a beginners tutorial on how it works and how to use it.

Members of the Khronos Group will be presenting a half day tutorial at Hot Chips 21 this August 23rd 2009 between 1:30 and 5:30 in the Memorial Auditorium at Stanford University California. The authors include Neil Trevett from NVIDIA, Mike Houston from AMD, Tim Mattson from Intel, Chris Lamb from NVIDIA, Eric Schenk from Electronic Arts and Kari Pulli from Nokia. Registration fees range from students at $95 to non-members at $220 for the Tutorials. Registration fees for Tutorials include a printed set of tutorial notes, continental breakfast, lunch, coffee break, and invitation to the evening Wine and Cheese Reception on Sunday, August 23, 2009.

AMD just published a public OpenCL Beta for the CPU, soon to be followed with support for AMD’s latest GPUs. OpenCL is a young technology and there are few documents that provide a basic introduction with examples.
