This year will see many sessions related to Khronos Technology including OpenCL, OpenGL, OpenVX, Vulkan and WebGL. NVIDIA has just added more sessions to their schedule. Cadence Design Systems, Inc. announced that the Cadence Tensilica Vision P-Series DSPs are the first imaging/vision DSPs to pass Khronos Group's conformance tests for the OpenVX 1.1 specification. Application developers can now take advantage of Tensilica Vision P5/P6 functionality without detailed knowledge of the hardware architecture and still achieve high performance. This enables faster development of computer vision and imaging applications on Tensilica Vision P-Series DSPs being deployed in applications processors for mobile, automotive, drone, security, augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) and other markets. In Qt 5.9 is now possible to render Qt Quick applications with OpenVG when using hardware that supports it. This is made possible by a new scene graph adaptation that uses EGL and OpenVG to render Qt Quick scenes.
Socionext Inc., a leader in state-of-the art system-on-chip technology, has developed the "SC1810" series, the fourth generation version of its high-performance graphics display controllers. In addition to further strengthening the graphics functions for in-vehicle display system, which the company has proven achievements, Socionext incorporated the industry first hardware accelerator that conforms with Khronos Group's computer vision API OpenVX to the SC1810. zSpace, Inc. announced it is joining The Khronos Group’s OpenXR working group to define a cross-vendor, royalty-free, open standard for access to modern virtual reality (VR) devices. Along with other Khronos members, zSpace will help define and support the development of OpenXR, a standard to enable VR applications to easily connect to VR hardware.

The Khronos Group today announced a call for participation in a new initiative to define a cross-vendor, royalty-free, open standard for access to modern virtual reality (VR) devices.
The rapid growth of the virtual reality market has led to platform fragmentation, forcing VR applications and engines to be ported and customized to run on multiple VR runtimes, and requiring VR sensors and displays to be integrated with multiple driver interfaces. This fragmentation slows the widespread availability of compelling VR experiences, creating added expense for developers wishing to support multiple VR devices, and hindering the adoption of innovative user interface technologies.
Any company interested to participate is strongly encouraged to join Khronos for a voice and a vote in the development process. Design contributions from any member are welcome. Some of the Khronos member companies helping to get this initiative underway include AMD, ARM, Epic Games, Google, Intel, LunarG, NVIDIA, Oculus, Razer, Tobii, Valve and VeriSilicon.
