Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) is going to integrate full support in Mir for the latest Vulkan 1.0 specifications. "Full support in the Mir display server will be landing in time for inclusion in Ubuntu 16.04,” wrote Stephen M. Webb software engineer for Canonical.

Valve Software has updated their Linux blog to report that the OpenGL version of Left 4 Dead 2 is now running fastest on Linux (315 fps). Surprisingly, given all the attention Valve has paid to Direct3D tuning over the years, even on Windows, the OpenGL version of the game now runs faster than Direct3D (304 fps vs. 270 fps) due to "overhead per batch in Direct3D which does not affect OpenGL on Windows".

AMD announced it is now offering a free OpenCL™ for CPU beta download as part of the ATI Stream SDK v2.0 Beta Program. The beta will help programmers to more easily develop parallel software programs and take further advantage of multi-core x86 CPUs to accelerate software and deliver a better computing experience. AMD has submitted conformance logs from its Microsoft® Windows® and Linux® CPU beta releases to the Khronos Working Group for certification.
Graphic Remedy is proud to announce the release of gDEBugger Version 5.2 for Windows, Mac OS X, iPhone and Linux. The new version adds a new Vertex Batch Statistics view to the gDEBugger Statistics viewer. OpenGL draw function calls are grouped by the number of vertices they push into the graphic pipeline, allowing the user to view and improve the ratio between API calls made and vertices drawn. In addition, the new release introduces OpenGL primitive performance counters, displaying the total number of render primitives and vertices drawn per frame, as well as a breakdown to the specific primitive types (points, lines and triangles). Version 5.2 also includes a public beta release of gDEBugger iPhone. gDEBugger iPhone runs on top of Apple's iPhone Simulator, enabling developers to debug and optimize iPhone OpenGL ES-based applications within their primary work environment.
