The COLLADA intermediate language specification is intended to standardize 3D data, but there’s a wide variation in the way applications work with COLLADA files. To help developers adhere to the standard and create 3D tools that work together seamlessly, the Khronos Group created the COLLADA Conformance Test Suite (CTS). The tutorial is available for download today as a PDF document. COLLADA has two levels of conformance tests, Adopters and the free Implementers tests. The implementers tests area freely available online.

AMD announced the Radeon E6760 embedded discrete graphics processor. The AMD Radeon E6760 GPU is the first of its kind to offer embedded system designers the combination of OpenCL support along with support for six independent displays. The Radeon E6760 is based on a published Khronos Specification, and is expected to pass the Khronos ConformanceTestingProcess. IBM released the OpenCL Development Kit for Linux on Power v0.3 and is available via alphaWorks. This updated offering is a fully conformant implementation of the OpenCL 1.1 specification. Other features of this release include a fully conformant implementation of the double precision extension, 32- and 64-bit atomic extensions, 64-bit application support, debugging improvements, as well as various performance improvements including full IBM POWER7* exploitation.
The Khronos™ Group today announced that it is making the COLLADA™ 1.4 Conformance Test Suite available free of charge to all developers. COLLADA is an open, XML-based industry standard that enables assets to be freely interchanged between 3D authoring applications which can then be mixed and matched in powerful combinations. The COLLADA test suite is a comprehensive set of over 500 detailed tests and a scripted framework that rigorously exercises applications that import and export COLLADA assets to ensure that they can reliably participate in a COLLADA-based toolchain.
Imagination Technologies has announced that it has submitted POWERVR SGX drivers for OpenCL 1.0 Embedded Profile conformance with Khronos. OpenCL capability will be available to POWERVR SGX licensees with the latest release of production drivers.
Digital Media Professionals Inc. announced that they have licensed the SMAPH-F, the latest OpenVG1.1 compliant graphics IP core to Renesas Electronics Corporation, for use in its next-generation system-on-chip (SoC) for consumer applications. The Khronos Group announced that the COLLADA™ 1.4 Adopters Package is complete and under final review prior to public release--anticipated for April, 2010. The Adopters Package contains both conformance testing software and documentation intended to drive rapid evaluation, deployment and acceptance of the COLLADA specification in 3D content creation, and asset management software. Three new levels of COLLADA compliance are offered in the Adopters Package, which is available to any interested company by executing the Khronos COLLADA 1.4 Adopters Agreement. The Khronos™ Group today announced strong industry support and a wide range of shipping products utilizing OpenCL™ at SC09 (an international conference for high-performance computing). A number of demonstrations and tutorials from Khronos Group members highlighting the power and scalability of OpenCL will also be a major part of SC09. Khronos released a conformance suite for the OpenCL 1.0 specification in May 2009 that exhaustively tests both the functionality and numerical accuracy of OpenCL implementations before they are licensed to use the OpenCL trademark. A number of shipping products from working group members have successfully passed OpenCL conformance including products from AMD, Apple and NVIDIA. NVIDIA has released the first public OpenCL conformant GPU drivers as well as a powerful performance profiling tool and an OpenCL Best Practices Guide. The OpenCL Visual Profiler uses the extensive performance instrumentation in NVIDIA’s OpenCL drivers and hardware performance signals designed into NVIDIA GPUs to provide developers with insight into performance bottlenecks and opportunities for optimization. The OpenCL Best Practices Guide designed to help OpenCL developers programming for the CUDA architecture implement high performance parallel algorithms and understand best practices for GPU Computing. The OpenCL drivers, Visual Profiler, and Best Practices Guide are all available on the NVIDIA developers website.
ARMs Mali-400 MP GPU is now the first and only multicore GPU to pass the rigorous conformance tests specified by The Khronos Group. The Mali-400 GPU has achieved Khronos conformance for all of the three major graphics APIs required by ARM Partners: OpenVG, OpenGL ES 1.1 and OpenGL ES 2.0. Conformance to the Khronos standards brings accredited Mali GPUs to multiple markets – from cellular handsets and personal navigation devices to digital TV, set-top box and digital picture frames.
