In conjunction with the launch of our PowerVR Series6XT and Series6XE GPUs, the Khronos Group has announced OpenGL® ES Next, a next-generation API standard which introduces a number of new features for mobile and embedded devices. Good news for developers targeting PowerVR-based hardware is that all our PowerVR Rogue GPUs are designed to meet the specifications of the OpenGL ES Next API. This means that any device with a PowerVR Series6, Series6XT or Series6XE graphics core will be able to support OpenGL ES Next, once conformance is achieved.

drawElements is proud to announce the addition of ARM to their GPU analysis system drawElements Quality Program. ARM expands its quality assurance processes with the adoption of the OpenCL and OpenGL ES 3.0 test modules of the drawElements Quality Program – the dEQP. The dEQP provides ARM with tens of thousands of automated test cases as well as associated services from drawElements’ expert engineers.

drawElements announced that Vivante Corporation has subscribed to the drawElements Quality Program. The drawElements Quality Program focuses on quality assurance and consists of multiple API test modules that ensure robust OpenGL ES, EGL, and OpenCL vendor implementations.

Altera announced that its SDK for OpenCL is conformant to the OpenCL 1.0 standard and is now included on the Khronos Group list of OpenCL conformant products. Altera is the only company to offer an FPGA-optimized OpenCL solution, allowing software developers to harness the massively parallel architecture of an FPGA for system acceleration. Altera will demonstrate its OpenCL solutions at the 2013 Linley Processor Conference, being held October 16-17 in Santa Clara, Calif.

Intel submitted a branch of the 3D graphics open source driver (Mesa), and is certified for compliance to the OpenGL ES 3.0 3D Graphics specification for the 3rd Generation Intel Core platform. This specification is expected to be used by many mobile Linux based operating systems in the near future.

Imagination’s PowerVR Series6 GPU technologies have now achieved full conformance with the latest version of OpenGL ES, marking another major milestone for this family of efficient, low power GPU IP cores which have been among the first OpenGL ES 3.0-conformant graphics cores to ship in consumer products. OpenGL ES 3.0 is the first update to OpenGL ES since 2004, bringing new features to the mobile standard that were previously only available on the desktop-oriented OpenGL 3.3 and 4.2. Khronos has kept backwards compatibility with OpenGL ES 2.0 but introduced new capabilities within the rendering pipeline, extended the list of texture formats, updated the GLSL ES shading language, and enhanced texturing functionality and efficiency, among other enhancements.

On February 13, 2013, Qualcomm mobile processors were one of the first to receive certification by the Khronos Group for conformance with the OpenGL ES 3.0 specifications. This is the latest version of the most widely used high-level, cross-platform graphics API for games and sophisticated graphics programming. Upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 600 and 800 processors with the latest industry leading Adreno™ 300 series GPUs will support OpenGL ES 3.0.

Intel has now submitted their OpenGL ES 3.0 results to the Khronos Group for validation with Ivy Bridge hardware and the Mesa 9.1 branch in hopes of being one of the first driver implementations to be officially OpenGL ES 3.0 conformant. Imagination Technologies announces that it is among the first to submit PowerVR Series6 ‘Rogue’ drivers for OpenGL ES 3.0 conformance with Khronos. Designed for the latest APIs, including OpenGL ES 3.0, PowerVR Series6 is already shipping in end user product. Product is based on a published Khronos Specification, and is expected to pass the Khronos Conformance Testing Process. Current conformance status can be found online.

The OpenGL ES Working Group is pleased to announce the launch of the OpenGL ES 3.0 Adopter program. OpenGL ES implementers that join the program get access to the OpenGL ES 3.0 conformance test, and are able to submit their products for OpenGL ES 3.0 conformance certification. The OpenGL ES 3.0 conformance test is the result of the largest software development project Khronos has ever undertaken. It is a revised and expanded version of the OpenGL ES 2.0 conformance test, with hundreds of subtests directed at the new features of OpenGL ES 3.0. Conformance certification is the mark of a high-quality implementation, and offers a high level of application portability. Vivante Corporation announced another major milestone in its leading multi-core GPU IP family: The world's tiniest GPU core designed to support the Khronos Group's OpenGL ES 3.0 API based on the GC880 IP leveraging the same ScalarMorphic technology of Vivante's industry leading multi-core ultra-threaded GPU cores. This core is in mass production powering multiple customer silicon products used in mobile, automotive, IPTV, and other embedded and Internet enabled devices. Product is based on a published Khronos OpenGL ES 3.0 Specification, and is expected to pass the Khronos Conformance Testing Process.
