The official launch of Kanzi® UI Solution will be announced at Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, NV. Kanzi® is the platform and operating system agnostic and requires only OpenGL ES 1.x or 2.0. Kanzi® offers a perfect solution for device manufacturers as it doesn’t cause the lock-in effect for specific platform or OS version but scales flexibly to any platform variant that supports OpenGL ES. Kanzi® users have a better influence and more freedom with decisions as they can use any 3D modeling tool supporting COLLADA® in order to create 3D objects and effects to user interfaces.

The Immersive Education Initiative unveiled iED 3D/VR™, the open and royalty-free cross-platform 3D/VR mesh file format that enables 3D and virtual reality (3D/VR) content to be created once and experienced across a range of virtual worlds, games, simulators and mixed/augmented reality applications. The culmination of over 2 years of work conducted through the Open File Formats Technology Working Group (OFF.TWG), iED 3D/VR is aligned with the COLLADA™ standard and supported by official iED virtual world platforms realXtend, Open Wonderland, Open Simulator ("OpenSim") and Open Cobalt in addition to the candidate iED platform Sirikata.

The new 1.2.0 version of COLLADA 3D Viewer is available through Nokia Ovi Store. The major changes in this version include: much improved Collada loading performance and compatibility and startup screen now has links to test model bank, user guide and feedback form.

Immaginaria Ltd. is proud to announce a major update to TNGViewer, featuring a new 'Anim' menu containing all animation takes available in a scene, and multiple sorting options for Top Scenes -- as well as automatic thumbnail and scene cache refresh. Furthermore, this release adds many new import options in the Preferences dialog, Unicode support for path and object names, much improved support for COLLADA files, new support for Google Earth files (.kml,.kmz), new support for Autodesk FBX 7 files (SDK 2011.3), new support for Blender files (.blend) via the latest Open Asset Import Library, plus several important rendering and import fixes throughout the application. Finally, the fallback Direct3D 9 renderer now has feature parity with the OpenGL renderer.

Thanks to the flexibility of COLLADA being an XML based language, the COLLADA Working Group continues to grow with new members from many diverse disciplines that employ 3D technologies. Many of our members turn to Khronos standards such as COLLADA, OpenGL ES and WebGL to support 3D content that can take advantage of web protocols and the forthcoming HTML5 suite of standards. The synergy between the industry's 3D applications and Khronos standards motivates best-in-class COLLADA coherent products; products that soon will have the potential to operate within native 3D enabled browsers. This summer at Siggraph, we welcome you to join us at the COLLADA Birds of a Feather session on Tuesday, July 27 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm in the Los Angeles Convention Center, Room 402A, to hear from some of these members on how they employ COLLADA. Okino Computer Graphics announced that its long standing 3D DCC/Animation/Skinning and CAD/MCAD/Architectural conversion software PolyTrans-for-3ds-Max (for 3ds Max 2011 & 3ds Max Design 2011), and PolyTrans-for-Maya (for Maya 2011), are now fully qualified and shipping to customers. Self proclaimed the defacto standard for conversion between visualization packages, and with good reason. Included in the many conversion formats are our two favourite: COLLADA and OpenGL C Code.

GLC_lib is a C++ library for high performance 3D application based on OpenGL. GLC_lib 2.0 can handle very large DMUs (Digital MockUps) to create fast free multi platform OpenGL 3D viewers. Some of the new features include: Frustum Culling with OpenGL frustum Plane extraction; space partitioning using Octree; ability to save all supported 3D Formats in a 3DXML ASCII V4; built in 3DWidget; built in Plane sectioning with easy and powerfull manipulation tools. Supported file formats include COLLADA, 3DXML ASCII V3 and V4, OBJ, 3DS, STL (ASCII and binary), and OFF and COFF.
