Mixamo online 3D animation service allows real-time creation of 3D character animations that are ready to be dragged and dropped into Flare3D IDE. This is possible through the use of the COLLADA format. Details of the workflow are provided online in a Mixamo-Flare-Flash tutorial.
The 17th edition of ACM International Web3D Conference will take place in Los Angeles Convention Center, California, in August 04-05, 2012. Co-Located with SIGGRAPH 2012 and in Cooperation with Web3D Consortium & ACM SIGGRAPH. The annual ACM Web3D Conference is a major event that gathers researchers, developers, entrepreneurs, experimenters, artists, and content creators in a dynamic environment. Attendees can share and explore methods of using, enhancing, and creating new 3D Web and Multimedia technologies, such as WebGL and HTML5 (which is a hot topic in Computer Graphics), Flash/ Stage 3D, X3D, COLLADA, and the MPEG family. The conference highlights capabilities and trends in interactive 3D graphics across a wide range of applications and supports research from mobile devices up to high-end immersive environments.
The Blender development team has released Blender version 2.60. Blender 2.60 incorporates 3D audio as well as restoration of sequence editor proxy support, vertex group modifiers, animation system improvements in the graph and dopesheet editor, improved Collada integration, added callbacks in the Python API, new add-ons, and better localisation and internationalisation support.
Quad Software announced the release of the version 3.1 of Grome, the game level authoring tool used by professional game developers and companies from 3D simulation industry. This new version brings new tools and enhancement to existing ones, speed and memory management improvements. New extended compatibility is provided with external engines (Unity3D, Unreal Development Kit, OpenSceneGraph) and integration with external modelers (3DS Max, Maya, Blender) is achieved via industry standard COLLADA format. Commercially available for over 4 years, Grome modeler is used for AAA game titles for latest generation consoles and for PC by companies like Ubisoft and Eidos, for mobiles platforms by Gameloft and for professional simulation applications by Boeing and Saab.
Smith Micro Software has announced the official release of Poser 9 and Poser Pro 2012. New Features include: Subsurface Scattering; Rendering Performance Improvements; Vertex Weight Map Rigging Support; 64-Bit Application and FireFly Render Engine; Vertex Weight Map Editing Tool Suite; and Updated PoserFusion plugins and COLLADA support.

The COLLADA intermediate language specification is intended to standardize 3D data, but there’s a wide variation in the way applications work with COLLADA files. To help developers adhere to the standard and create 3D tools that work together seamlessly, the Khronos Group created the COLLADA Conformance Test Suite (CTS). The tutorial is available for download today as a PDF document. COLLADA has two levels of conformance tests, Adopters and the free Implementers tests. The implementers tests area freely available online.
