Goo Technologies announced the launch of Goo Create, the first professional platform for high-end web graphics. For the first time, professional, high-end 3D visualizations can be created and published online using HTML5, without any downloads or plug-ins, accessible from any device supporting WebGL. Goo Create enables artists and web developers to create rich, interactive web graphics with incredible smoothness and sophistication.
Amazon launched a new type of instance for its EC2 cloud computing platform that is specifically designed for applications that require 3D graphics capabilities. Using these new instances, Amazon argues, its users can now “build high-performance DirectX, OpenGL, CUDA, and OpenCL applications and services without making expensive up-front capital investments.” Amazon is making two of these new GPU instance types available for now. The g2.2xlarge version comes with 15 GB memory, 60 GB of local storage, 26 EC2 Compute Units (that’s an Intel Sandy Bridge processor running at 2.6 GHz) and a single NVIDIA Kepler GK104 graphics card (with 1536 CUDA cores). The larger cg1.4xlarge version comes with 22 GB of memory, 1690 GB of local storage, 33.5 EC2 Compute Units and two NVIDIA Tesla “Fermi” M2050 GPUs.
NORAD has now switched allegiance and will use Bing Maps, as this year’s site has been developed in partnership with Microsoft's Internet Explorer team. The company has optimised the site for touchscreen devices and is using 3D technology with WebGL to provide a "more realistic-looking version of Santa’s Village and Santa’s trek across the world".
CopperCube is ideal for creating 3D educational programs, architectural visualizations, military simulations, product configurators, games, e-learning applications and 3D prototypes. The most recent release now offers WebGL support for Internet Explorer 11.
Shaderific 3.1 is now available. Shaderific is an educational app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch that helps computer science students and experienced developers to get started with OpenGL ES 2.0 shader development. The update adds a new stereoscopy mode that allows to render any shader as anaglyph red-cyan 3D images. This provides a completely new 3D experience when using glasses with the appropriate red-cyan filters. Furthermore, multiple instances of the same object can now be rendered with a single shader using the new draw instanced functionality.
Khronos discloses the high-level direction for a new version of the OpenGL ES standard for mobile and embedded 3D graphics - to enable roadmap planning by OEMs and developers that are not Khronos members. Details around 'OpenGL ES Next' include:
- The OpenGL ES Working Group plans to release a new version of OpenGL ES in 2014
- The main features of the new API will be:
- Backward compatibility with OpenGL ES 2.0 and 3.0
- Compute shaders, with atomics and image load/store capability
- Separate shader objects
- Indirect draw commands
- Enhanced texturing functionality including texture gather, multisample textures and stencil textures
- Enhanced shading language functionality
- For clarification purposes the new API will not include:
- Tessellation and geometry shaders

Adobe has just released its update for Photoshop CC, bringing with it major support for the world of 3D. Included is the natively built-in option to publish your 3D models directly to Sketchfab using WebGL. Support files types include OBJ, STL, 3DS, Collada, and KMZ.
GFXBench 3.0 is a high-end 3D graphics benchmark that adds advanced OpenGL ES 3 features and special tests to the popular GFXBench benchmark suite.
