Four years ago we presented a prototype for creating custom 3D paper models using OpenGL. This time we present a new version developed using WebGL. Besides several options to custom the paper model like surface color, edge color and thickness, or images used as stickers, the user can also make new models using a simple revolution surface editor. This prototype still follows a client-server model. The server starts to work when the user requests the PDF file, computing a high quality paper model using OpenGL for multisampling, texture filtering and off-screen rendering.
CesiumJS just released a demo streaming over 135,000 buildings in Washington, DC using tiles of glTF in Cesium. The demo is fairly fast and there are more optimizations to come. Over 135,000 measurement-quality structures with rooftops from CyberCity 3D.

The Immersive Technology Alliance (ITA) is currently forming working groups to make effective quality assurance and software compatibility standards for virtual reality (VR) devices. Defined industry standards will allow content makers to confidently produce experiences for all immersive solutions and community platforms. "The ITA is a unique forum for diverse companies to identify collaborative opportunities to accelerate the mainstream adoption of virtual and augmented reality. Consumer-ready VR and AR will require many interoperating standards, and Khronos looks forward to working with the ITA to help make that vision a reality," said Neil Trevett, President of the Khronos Group.
KDAB are rewriting the Qt3D module of Qt 5 to provide an easy but flexible API for easily getting 3D content into your Qt applications using either C++ or QML. Qt3D is built on top of OpenGL and OpenGL ES and provides a data-driven renderer configuration. In the previous article we learned about the requirements and high-level architecture of Qt3D 2.0. In order to put some of this into context and to give you a concrete example of how it looks to draw something in Qt3D using the QML API, we will now briefly show the important parts of one of the simple examples that will ship with Qt3D.

Cesium provides an online COLLADA-to-glTF converter that allows us to drag and drop a COLLADA model and its textures to produce a glTF model for use in Cesium. Luxion KeyShot v5.1 is a conceptual design software that enables designers to import and enhance exisitng 3D models, creating variations for manufacturing, marketing or customer approval. KeyShots designers are able to import COLLADA files, as well as BIP, Alias WIRE, PTC Creo, Rhinoceros, SketchUp, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Pro/ENGINEER, IGES, STEP, OBJ, 3ds, and FBX data.
