January 8, 2018 – Taipei, Taiwan – The Khronos™ Group, an open consortium of leading hardware and software companies creating advanced acceleration standards, is holding an outreach event in Taipei to update the Taiwanese embedded industry on the latest developments in open standards for parallel computation, vision acceleration and neural network processing. The event will be held at the Taipei Shangri-La Far Eastern Plaza Hotel on Friday January 19th, admission is free – more details are here.
Featuring speakers from Khronos, MediaTek and NTHU, this day-long event will provide an update on how Khronos is evolving its open standards to meet the needs of the embedded industry. Topics covered will include the OpenCL roadmap to enable power-efficient heterogeneous computing, updates to OpenVX for vision acceleration, and an introduction to the newly announced NNEF standard for universal neural network exchange.
“Khronos has an increasing number of international standards that provide significant business opportunities in embedded markets - including vision and neural network acceleration. We value this chance to interact directly with key players from the Taiwanese industry -- to provide an update on latest developments and to gather valuable feedback,” said Neil Trevett, president of the Khronos Group. “Many innovations to Khronos standards are being made by Taiwanese companies, for example Professor Jenq-Kuen Lee and his team at NTHU have made significant contributions to OpenCL’s evolving roadmap for embedded multicore DSP-based systems. Khronos thanks Professor Lee for his participation and warmly invites other Taiwanese companies and universities to join Khronos’ standardization activities.”
There are numerous activities in Taiwan related to Khronos APIs.

ITRI ICL Director, Dr. Tzi-Cker Chiueh said, "Information and Communications Labs of ITRI is working on an OpenCL-based DNN training framework based on Tensorflow and AMD Radeon GPUs."
Dr. J.-C. Chen, Convener, CS Program, MOST, Taiwan mentioned, “We encourage Taiwan industries and academic institutions to contribute to Khronos APIs and software ecosystems.”
Professor Jenq-Kuen Lee of NTHU also said “Thank you to Taiwan MOST and Mediatek for funding support to encourage research activities with Khronos APIs designs.”
