Standards and Open Libraries for Animation and Video Games

Bill Polson, Director of Industry Strategy at Pixar, will present OpenSubDiv, a set of open source libraries that implement high-performance subdivision surface evaluation on massively parallel CPU and GPU architectures. The code embodies decades of research and experience by Pixar, and a more recent and still active collaboration on fast GPU drawing between Microsoft Research and Pixar.
Erik Noreke is the Chair of OpenSL ES working group in the Khronos Group. The Khronos Group is a not for profit industry consortium creating open standards for the authoring and acceleration of parallel computing, graphics, dynamic media, computer vision and sensor processing on a wide variety of platforms and devices. The Khronos Group heads OpenGL (graphics) and OpenCL (computational) standards among others. Erik will present the Khronos Group as well as the latest developments in the standards they manage.
