Each year metaio unveils the latest advances in the exciting field of Augmented Reality (AR). Business and technology professionals come from all over the world to see the newest industrial installations, the latest mobile app developments, wearable computing prototypes, and futuristic projects straight from the R&D labs of metaio and its international network of partners. Come explore the impossible at insideAR 2013, October 10-11 in Munich Germany.
Better, Faster, Stronger: Accelerating Hardware for Augmented Reality
October 10 | 14:15 | Main Stage
|Ofri Wechsler||AR Acceleration – Challenges and Opportunities|
|Paul Evans||Improving the AR Experience|
|Neil Trevett||Silicon Innovation and APIs for Mobile AR
Increasingly powerful SOC (system-on-chip) silicon and new classes of integrated cameras and sensors are making mobile devices ever more capable AR platforms. However, achieving smooth AR interactivity within the power envelope of tablets, phone and wearables remains a significant challenge. Acceleration using a range of GPU, DSP and hardware architectures suited to different processing tasks will be essential to high performance AR at low power. However, vendor independent, open standards to enable developers to access these increasingly complex devices without industry-wide fragmentation will be essential to market growth. Khronos is the industry consortium that creates cutting-edge acceleration standards such as OpenGL ES (high-performance graphics), OpenCL (heterogeneous parallel computation), OpenVX (vision processing) and a new camera control API. Neil will discuss how Khronos royalty-free APIs are being developed and deployed to create a cross-platform acceleration foundation for AR, and how NVIDIA is using those standards to enable advanced AR on NVIDIA Tegra-powered devices.
|Metaio||Markus Tremmel||Introducing the next Metaio AREngine|
