Following on the success of their first installment: API without Secrets: Introduction to Vulkan Part 0: Preface, Intel has released Part I, The Beginning. The entire sample project with full source code is available in a provided example that can be found on Github.
Tomasz Bednarz will be giving a 30-minute talk about Vulkan, as an API that connects across scales. The session is about various hacks in code (code is art), and art. Starting with 8-bit computers, talk about graphics, art installations, shaders and using shaders to paint the world in VR, and finishing off with large visualisation systems, and how we do graphics and compute using massive systems.
Kathleen Maher from Jon Peddie Research writes "One of the most important technical advances to move technology forward is the development of WebGL, a variation on OpenGL that enables online code to take advantage of hardware processing. With the imminent arrival of WebGL 2.0 — expected by this summer — Peddie and Maher see benefits from hardware acceleration on the horizon."
Futuremark has released a new upgraded version of the benchmarking tool named Slingshot Extreme. The new version of the program comes packing hardware accelerated OpenGL ES 3.1 API and Metal API for Android and Apple respectively. This is a major upgradation over the last version as well as the 2013 build named Ice Storm which came with 720p tests and used OpenGL ES 2.0 as well as the last release that tested 1920x1080p and used OpenGL ES 3.0.

The GStreamer 1.8 open-source multimedia framework has been released today, March 24, 2016, after several months of hard work, and it appears to be a major release with dozens of new features. According to the release notes, GStreamer 1.8 adds initial support for the new Vulkan 1.0 API.
Phoronix has been busy running benchmarks with OpenGL and Vulkan atop Ubuntu 16.04 Linux for both AMD Radeon and NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards.
The Khronos Group has put out a request for quote (RFQ) for a glTF Validator. The primary goal of this project is to create a glTF Asset Validator: a tool to validate that a glTF asset conforms to the glTF spec. This will be used to validate pipeline tools such as converters, exporters, and optimizers. Complete information is available online.
There will be a Vulkan Keynote at Laval Virtual March 24 2016 in Laval France. Tristan Lorach will present "From OpenGL to Vulkan: looking for optimal graphic performances". The conference will explore the constituent elements of the new Vulkan API and explain why it was created.
