Vivante Corporation announced a multi-million dollar, multi-year, multi-use extension to an existing 2007 license agreement covering Vivante GPU IP cores. This top ten fabless semiconductor vendor has produced first-pass, working silicon samples including Vivante GPU cores for multiple product lines spanning digital home entertainment products, as well as smart phone and MID application processors. One notable result of this collaboration is the world’s smallest Khronos™ Group compliant OpenGL® ES 2.0 GPU cores, occupying less than 3.5 mm2 in 65 nm silicon. This silicon footprint includes test structures with the GPU core running at 200 MHz in 65LP process technology. Vivante has achieved Khronos Group compliance for the GPU cores delivered under this agreement for OpenGL ES 2.0, OpenVG™ 1.0.1, and OpenGL ES 1.1.

Vivante Corporation, the embedded GPU technology leader, announced today that it has joined the MIPS® Alliance Program to bring its programmable graphics IP cores to designers using cores from MIPS Technologies. Vivante’s 2D/3D GC series GPU IP product line supports OpenGL® ES 2.0, OpenGL® ES 1.1 and OpenVG® application programming interfaces.

Folks on at atoker.com have been hard at work on getting Cairo's GTK of the Open Source WebKit to render straight to OpenGL with Cairo’s new OpenVG backend and ShivaVG. The results have been excellent so far with more improvements expected.
Imagination Technologies announced that its POWERVR graphics acceleration technology is the world's first to pass the Khronos™ conformance tests for OpenVG™ 1.0.1. Imagination has completed conformance testing of their OpenVG implementation using the official Khronos conformance test suite, and has achieved a 100% successful pass rate for all tests. Khronos formally approved Imagination’s claim for OpenVG 1.0.1 conformance on January 10th 2008.
ARM announced 18 ARM Partners are now utilizing products from its Mali(tm) graphics portfolio. The ARM(R) Mali55(tm) and ARM Mali200(tm) GPUs have been licensed by nine SoC vendors including Micronas Inc. and Zoran, since their launch at 3GSM in 2007. In addition, the ARM Mali-JSR184(tm) 3D graphics engine has been licensed by nine leading OEM licensees including Samsung Electronics. In addition to providing content developers with the state-of-the-art programmable features in OpenGL ES 2.0 Mali products also support SVG and Flash through OpenVG for improved text, navigation, UI and web-browsing experiences.
AMD today announced Freescale Semiconductor will license its 2D and 3D graphics technology. Freescale Semiconductor will use the AMD graphics technologies to equip its i.MX processors with OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenVG 1.0 technologies. OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenVG technologies are designed for mobile applications where battery life is key, including portable gaming, navigation and media player devices.
