Xilinx and IBM to Enable FPGA-Based Acceleration within SuperVessel OpenPOWER Development Cloud

Khronos Group members Xilinx and IBM announced they will be enabling FPGA-based acceleration within the SuperVessel OpenPOWER development cloud. Development of performance demanding applications including big data analytics and machine learning is enabled by the Xilinx SDAccel Development Environment, hosted in SuperVessel. SDAccel allows application developers to describe their algorithms in OpenCL, C, and C++ and compile directly to Xilinx FPGA-based acceleration boards. The hosted environment will make FPGA-based application development faster and more accessible to a broad global community of developers.

Adobe Announces New 3D Printing Features for Photoshop CC including COLLADA rigging

At Adobe Max: The Creativity Conference, Adobe confirmed that they will be providing enhanced 3D support for Photoshop CC, including the ability to read COLLADA rigging and animation data. COLLADA Rigging Support: Users can import animation and rigging data from COLLADA files, and continue to paint, finish or refine 3D objects. You can also leverage the existing animation data and Photoshop Timeline to create promotional videos.

Slingshot Extreme Benchmark for iOS and Android Released by Futuremark

Futuremark has released a new upgraded version of the benchmarking tool named Slingshot Extreme. The new version of the program comes packing hardware accelerated OpenGL ES 3.1 API and Metal API for Android and Apple respectively. This is a major upgradation over the last version as well as the 2013 build named Ice Storm which came with 720p tests and used OpenGL ES 2.0 as well as the last release that tested 1920x1080p and used OpenGL ES 3.0.
