MATLAB announces the first release of OpenCL Toolbox. It is a simple interface that encapsulates clBuffer and clKernel as MATLAB class objects. It allows one to easily create device buffers, set device memory, compile and call kernel functions. MATLAB® is a high-level language and interactive environment that enables you to perform computationally intensive tasks faster than with traditional programming languages such as C, C++, and Fortran.
The Khronos Group today announced the DTV Extension for OpenMAX AL, which brings advanced digital television functionality to all mobile devices and phones. The specification and header files are available in the Khronos Registry.
The Khronos Group today announced OpenMAX AL, a video and multimedia specification for mobile devices that supports any and all mobile devices, phones and operating systems. Nokia announced support of the standard at launch, with other companies actively developing around the new specification. The full specification and header files are available in the Khronos Registry, as well, a Quick Reference card is available for immediate download.
The Khronos Group today announced OpenSL ES, a new 3D audio specification to bring advanced sound capabilities to any mobile phone or mobile operating system. Companies announcing support of the new standard at launch include Google and SRS. The full specification and header files are available in the Khronos Registry, as well, a Quick Reference card is available for immediate download.
These OpenGL Programming course help application programmers master platform-independent graphics programming using OpenGL. Students learn to create interactive, animated applications displaying wire-frame and solid 3D models controlled by user input and how to add lighting, textures, and other effects to increase realism. Newer OpenGL topics such as using vertex-buffer objects for better performance, and vertex and fragment shaders for advanced shading techniques are introduced. Courses will be offered in March, May and October in California, the UK and in Asia if the demand is there. Full details and information are available online.
SiSoftware has posted two OpenCL benchmarks online. One addresses GPGPU OpenGL performance, and the second CPU OpenGL performance. The conclusion: There is no reason not to port CUDA code to OpenCL now!
The sample code for the OpenGL ES 2.0 Programming Guide is now available for WebGL, Android 2.2, and iOS 4.2 (in addition to continued support on Windows OpenGL ES 2.0). Additionally, in order to make it easier to provide future updates, the code has been migrated to the opengles-book-samples Google Code project. You can purchase the OpenGL ES 2.- Programming Guide here.
Rightware’s Kanzi UI Solution provides rapid creation of visually rich 3D UIs with a high performance engine for embedded systems. The Kanzi UI Solution also supports stereoscopic 3D, multi-touch, gestures and physics, and porting to any smart platform that supports OpenGL ES 1.x or 2.0 is an easy and straightforward process.
The official launch of Kanzi® UI Solution will be announced at Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, NV. Kanzi® is the platform and operating system agnostic and requires only OpenGL ES 1.x or 2.0. Kanzi® offers a perfect solution for device manufacturers as it doesn’t cause the lock-in effect for specific platform or OS version but scales flexibly to any platform variant that supports OpenGL ES. Kanzi® users have a better influence and more freedom with decisions as they can use any 3D modeling tool supporting COLLADA® in order to create 3D objects and effects to user interfaces.
