OpenSceneGraph announces new training courses in Washing ton DC

OpenSceneGraph recently announced a new training course to be held in Washington DC. This training event is co-instructed by Bob Kuehne (Blue Newt Software) and Paul Martz (Skew Matrix Software). The training will be held in the heart of Washington DC with easy train, metro, and parking, all near the location. The three days are broken into two courses: January 22-23 will teach you everything you need to know in order to move from basic OSG usage to detailed and comprehensive library features. 3D Model sharing site startup, supports COLLADA and more

Marsel Khadiyev has created, a model-sharing site for all kinds of meshes with peer-reviews and easy searches. A model on consists of a set of meshes and their textures. Uploading is simple- put your model file in a new folder, add any textures (currently only diffuse is supported), zip the folder, and upload. Google releases the first version of its SDK for the new Android Open Handset Alliance Project

Google's Android project, developed as an Open Handset Alliance Project, released the first version of its SDK along with an introduction to the mobile device platform in video. The video shows some of the slick features available in the stock platform. As well, the platform supports some rather nice looking OpenGL ES powered 3D capabilities, including the ability to run Quake on Android devices, something that they briefly demo in the video. Watch to the end of the video and you will see that Google is giving away $10 million in prizes to the best applications built for the Android platform. Motorola Technical publication on the implementation of OpenMAX™ on Dual Core Processors

Motorola releases a technical paper which addresses the OMX IL implementation on a dual core platform. Implementation of OMX aware applications and codec components is of great importance to Motorola because it eases platform migration and rapid integration of codecs from various internal and external sources. Physics Abstraction Layer COLLADA loader has been released

Physics Abstraction Layer (PAL) now has an extensive set of common features such as simulating different devices or loading physics configurations from XML or COLLADA files. PAL provides a unified interface to a number of different physics engines. This enables the use of multiple physics engines within one application. It is not just a simple physics wrapper, but provides an extensible plug-in architecture for the physics system, as well as extended functionality for common simulation components. Read More

OpenSceneGraph course from Blue Newt and Skew Matrix - Italy

OSG Community has announced two OpenSceneGraph courses from Blue Newt and Skew Matrix. These course being offereing in the US and Rome aim to provide students with a sweeping survey of OpenSceneGraph and its internals. The OpenSceneGraph is an open source high performance 3D graphics toolkit, used by application developers in fields such as visual simulation, games, virtual reality, scientific visualization and modelling. 3D Warehouse Update - Collada Files

Google has updated the 3D Warehouse with a significant new feature. Models in the 3D Warehouse can now be downloaded in the Collada file format (an open standard 3D file format). Collada files are supported by Google Earth. This is particularly significant because this means you now have an even faster way to bring models from the 3D Warehouse into Google Earth. The Collada files are downloaded in a Zip file. After downloading one you can simply drag the model's DAE file from the Zip file straight into Google Earth's Places folders and the model will be loaded on top of your current location. Note that if you are viewing the 3D Warehouse in a language other than English, you may not see the Collada file format option for a given model. Read More
