Bringing Virtual Worlds to Your Web Browser

• Tags:

Connect@NMC Online Seminar featuring Henrik Bennetsen of Katalabs, a pioneer in the use of open source software and HTML5 to deliver fast, seamless virtual world experiences inside modern web browsers. HTML5 and WebGL are two emerging standards bringing change to the web. Join Henrik on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 12:00 pm Pacific Time to learn more about using emerging standards to create 3D virtual worlds within the browser. Connect@NMC sessions are free and open to the public, and take place in the NMC Adobe Connect Seminar room.   Read More

Numerical modeling of gravitational wave sources accelerated by OpenCL

• Tags:

OpenCL framework to accelerate an EMRI modeling application using the hardware accelerators – Cell BE and Tesla CUDA GPU. The main goal of this work is to evaluate an emerging computational platform, OpenCL, for scientific computation. Results show OpenCL binary on a par with CUDA SDK. Baseline is an AMD Phenom 2.5Ghz CPU.   Read More

Tutorial: Adventures in OpenCL Part 2: Particles with OpenGL

• Tags:

In this episode of Adventures in OpenCL tutorials, we cover OpenCL context sharing with OpenGL. We make a simple particle system to demonstrate this feature. One of the most important aspects of this feature is the time we can save by doing rendering and calculations on the same memory in the GPU, this means we don’t need to copy data back and forth!   Read More

OpenCL™ Optimization Case Study: Simple Reductions

• Tags:

AMD Developer central just released an OpenCL optimization case study on SImple Reductions. Strategies examined for efficiently mapping reductions onto the ATI Radeon™ HD 5870 GPU and AMD Phenom™ II X4 965 CPU. Taking advantage of properties of the reduction being performed, as well as matching the style of reduction to the hardware platform, can result in performance improvements of up to 15x, compared to naive code.   Read More

Kanzi™ Enables Rapid Creation of 3D UIs for Android Devices with OpenGL ES and COLLADA

• Tags:

Kanzi provides the missing link between today’s leading 3D graphics content creation tools (e.g. 3DS Max, Maya and Softimage) and target devices, now including the Android devices. Artists can easily export their designs from these software packages to Kanzi Tool using COLLADA data format. Kanzi also features a unified pipeline for OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenGL ES 1.x based 3D graphics.   Read More

OpenCL Support Vector Machine Implementation

• Tags:

CMSoft brings an OpenCL accelerated SVM implementation that can be used for general-purpose classification. Support Vector Machine (SVM) is a statistical learning tool considered to be the state-of-the art classifier for many applications today, including medical research and text categorization. Source code is provided showing classification of the MNIST handwritten database.   Read More
