Khronos has introduced a new extension named VK_EXT_graphics_pipeline_library that allows for shaders to be compiled much earlier than at full Pipeline State Object (PSO) creation time. By leveraging this extension, I was able to avoid many causes of frame hitches due to PSOs being late-created at draw time in the Source 2 Vulkan renderer. The extension spec was released today and SDK support will follow soon.

Teledyne DALSA is an international leader in high performance digital imaging and semiconductors with approximately 1,000 employees world-wide. Established in 1980 and acquired by Teledyne Technologies in 2011, Teledyne DALSA designs, develops, manufactures, and markets digital imaging products and solutions, in addition to providing semiconductor products and services. Our core competencies are in specialized integrated circuit and electronics technology, software, and highly engineered semiconductor wafer processing.

Teledyne DALSA exists for the long term. Our goal is to build upon our 30 year heritage of developing the world’s leading high performance digital imaging and semiconductor solutions and to accelerate our level of innovation. We focus on R&D development but also draw on the capabilities available to us as part of a larger organization. We seek to deliver products and technology that are truly innovative so that we can help our customers succeed.

We’re thrilled that Khronos and European Machine Vision Association (EMVA) continue to strengthen our cooperative liaison to foster the creation of an open, royalty-free standard for controlling camera system runtimes in embedded, mobile, industrial, XR, automotive, and scientific markets. Both the EMVA and Khronos have a well-established history of driving standardization to enable the industry to accelerate the development and deployment of new products by reducing fragmentation. Khronos and EMVA have been collaborating for over a year on this initiative – first with the formation of an Embedded Camera API Exploratory group in February 2021 and now as an official Khronos Camera API Working Group. Weekly meetings for the Camera API Working Group started on March 10 – and any organization is welcome to join Khronos and participate!

Participation is free and open to all safety-critical markets. All participants will be able to discuss use cases and requirements for a unified parallel programming interface for C++ to accelerate market growth. This API would be designed to reduce development and certification costs in safety-critical markets where using the SYCL higher-level programming model could improve programming productivity. If the Exploratory Forum reaches a significant consensus then Khronos will work to initiate a formal Working Group to develop SYCL SC specifications.

The Award-winning technology company announces it received the prestigious financial grant form Epic, the company behind the popular Unreal Engine and Fortnite. The Epic MegaGrant is awarded for the further development of its OpenXR runtime, adopting the industry-standard. With recently being honoured an Innovation Award at CES last January, this is the 2nd award the Dutch technology company wins in Q1 of 2022 based on its Simulated Reality technology.

AMD’s Radeon MIVisionX computer vision and machine intelligence toolkit is now delivering a conformant highly optimized OpenVX 1.3 vision function library. The OpenVX implementation supports both CPU execution and GPU acceleration through OpenCL or HIP backends. This OpenVX 1.3 implementation targets a wide range of computer vision applications, including small embedded x86 CPUs, APUs, discrete GPUs, and heterogeneous servers. The implementation is fully open-sourced on GitHub at
