The Khronos OpenVX working group is soliciting quotes for enhancing and expanding the OpenVX Conformance Test Suite. OpenVX is an open, royalty-free standard for cross platform acceleration of computer vision applications. Any company, whether a Khronos member or not, is cordially invited to contact Khronos and provide a quote. Interested parties can access the details of the request on the Khronos website.
Imagination Technologies announces a new offering as part of its Imagination University Programme (IUP) that provides the first complete teaching course on mobile graphics. “An Introduction to Mobile Graphics” includes a rich set of teaching materials and practical exercises that leverage Imagination’s popular PowerVR graphics processors (GPUs). The new course has been developed so that little to no previous knowledge of graphics is required, and the content is adaptable to fit most teaching methods and structures. This introductory course is based around OpenGL ES 2.0, the most widely deployed and adopted mobile graphics API.

CesiumJS just released a demo streaming over 135,000 buildings in Washington, DC using tiles of glTF in Cesium. The demo is fairly fast and there are more optimizations to come. Over 135,000 measurement-quality structures with rooftops from CyberCity 3D.

Khronos Boston Chapter leader Jim Susinno is holding a Chapter meetup in Cambridge MA this June 20th. Jim will introduce the Chapter community and share the latest updates about OpenGL and Vulkan as well as give a Khronos Group overview. The meetup is talking place in conjunction with @party.
The Khronos Group expects to announce later this year an OpenGL transmission format (glTF) that could act like the .mp3 or .jpg of graphic animations. The binary format aims to be neutral to any runtime environment and support at least 10:1 compression techniques already in the lab.

Streamcomputing is have a busy summer and fall 2015. First up, starting on September 2 there is a 3-day OpenCL 2.0 training course in Amsterdam at the Science Park Matrix. Followed by a free one-day Embedded boards comparison workshop on September 17 at the same location. The Khronos Group today announced the ratification and public release of the OpenVX™ 1.0.1 specification, a maintenance update to the open, royalty-free standard for cross platform acceleration of computer vision applications. OpenVX 1.0.1 integrates bug fixes and clarifications resulting from feedback from working group members and the wider industry implementing and using the specification. OpenVX enables performance and power-optimized computer vision processing, especially important in embedded and real-time uses cases such as face, body and gesture tracking, smart video surveillance, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), object and scene reconstruction, augmented reality, visual inspection, robotics and more. In addition to the OpenVX conformance tests and Adopters Program launched in late 2014, Khronos is now shipping an open source, fully-conformant CPU-based implementation of OpenVX 1.0 that runs on Linux, Android or Windows. ArrayFire v3.0 has been released. This new version features major changes to ArrayFire’s visualization library, a new CPU backend, and dense linear algebra for OpenCL devices. It also includes improvements across the board for ArrayFire’s OpenCL backend. A complete list ArrayFire v3.0 updates and new features can be found in the product release notes.
