CopperCube, the game engine focussing on WebGL has just been released in version 5. It now includes terrain support, video playback, network communication, iOS 8 WebGL support, shader programming, animation blending, and much more. There are also two new WebGL demos available on its website, showing it in action. A list of the new features with images is available as well.

AMD has released the Catalyst OpenCL 2.0 version 14.41 graphics driver, adding support for OpenCL 2.0 Core features. This release is compatible with Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 (64-bit), Red Hat Enterprise 6.5 (64-bit version) and Ubuntu 14.04 (64-bit version).

The COLLADA to glTF converter online tool allows you to convert your COLLADA models to glTF for use with Cesium. Simply drag-and-drop your COLLADA file (.dae) and any images it references by zipping them together. A self-contained glTF file will be downloaded once the conversion is finished, and a model preview will be shown below.

The WebGL Workshop London Meetup Group will be holding another WebGL meet-up in London on September 25th 2014.This month they’ll take a look at using fonts (and possibly models) in raw WebGL, Three.js, Babylon.js and (hopefully) PlayCanvas. Autodesk will also give a brief presentation of their online model viewer. Held at the SkillsMatter on Goswell Road London, there are a few prerequisites. The SDK works with current Intel processors and allows visual computing applications to take advantage of OpenCL 2.0’s new features on Intel Core M and future processors with Intel Processor Graphics. This major advance in graphics programmability and accessibility will help developers make greater use of the graphics engine to deliver new experiences on Intel-based platforms. The SDK provides everything you need to build, debug, and analyze OpenCL applications. Altera is demonstrating several advanced reconfigurable logic technologies at the Intel Developers Forum (IDF) 2014 that showcase how its FPGA-based solutions are advancing the capabilities of software-defined data centers and high-performance computing applications. The Financial Model Acceleration with FPGAs demonstration uses OpenCL to efficiently implement multiple kernels on an FPGA performing a Monte Carlo simulation to price options. Utilizing the OpenCL standard on a massively parallel FPGA architecture provides an effective solution for system acceleration, offering significantly higher performance at much lower power versus GPUs.

WebGL Paris is an open free event targeting developers, researchers, artists or students interested directly or indirectly to the WebGL technology. It is French spoken and framework agnostic. Long and short WebGL lectures and workshops will take place throughout the afternoon and evening. Registration to the event is available on the event website.
