Tech Source, Inc. has announced a conduction cooled and rugged version of its Condor 3000x XMC processor targeted at general purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU) applications. The Condor 3000x-cc XMC card is based on the AMD RadeonTM E6760 AIB. With 576 GFLOPs of peak single precision floating point performance and 480 individual processing units (shaders), the Condor 3000 graphics processor is particularly well suited for highly parallel computations and other GPGPU applications such as image analysis, radar, sonar, and video surveillance.
AMD graphics boards are used in 24 of the top 100 supercomputers. The complete list can be found here.
Imagination Technologies, a leading multimedia technologies company, announces the latest IP cores in its ground-breaking PowerVR Series6 GPU core family. The PowerVR G6230 and G6430 GPU IP cores are the latest in a growing family of PowerVR Series6 GPU cores and deliver high compute efficiency while minimising power and bandwidth requirements. Rogue meets requirements for compute APIs including OpenCL 1.x and Renderscript Compute, delivering an optimal balance of performance versus power consumption for mobile and embedded devices. All members of the Series6 family are designed to support all features of the latest graphics APIs including the next generation of the OpenGL ES API, OpenGL 3.x/4.x, and DirectX10 with certain family members extending their capabilities to full WHQL-compliant DirectX11.1 functionality.
According to the semiconductor research firm Jon Peddie Research, Qualcomm is shipping the most mobile graphics processors. The research firm found that nearly 900 million mobile GPUs of all types shipped in 2011, and projects unit shipments to surpass 1 billion in 2012. The mobile GPU leader, Qualcomm, owned 25 percent of the market last year, while runner-up Intel had a 19 percent share.
AMD is spearheading an effort to better develop and maintain standards for general processing over GPU (GPGPU) programming. The company is leading the creation of the HSA Foundation, a non-profit industry group aimed at standardising and maintaining platforms for the development of applications which use both CPU and GPU hardware of the Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA).
At GDC, SemiAccurate sat down with Andrew Richards of Codeplay to talk about OpenCL’s past, present, and future. The results went in directions we had not been anticipating, especially surrounding the future directions of the language. The video of the interview is available on the SemiAccurate website. The Khronos Group YouTube channel also has a good select of video interviews, including one with Andrew Richards.
AMD has announced a new unified profiling and debugging tool for both AMD’s CPUs and GPUs, called CodeXL. CodeXL brings together AMD’s GPU compute tools and AMD’s CPU compute tools to enable faster and more robust development of OpenCL and GPU accelerated applications.
You now have until June 28 to submit your most awesome work in mobile applications, systems, hardware, software, graphics and more! The second Symposium on Apps at SIGGRAPH Asia 2012 in Singapore is a venue for both industry and academia to introduce the opportunities and challenges of mobile applications development to the global graphics community. The program will educate and explore how visual and animation techniques can be used on mobile devices to create compelling end user experiences and to drive the use of advanced graphics capabilities on billions of new devices.
Tom’s Hardware tests OpenCL acceleration in Adobe PhotoShop CS6, Musemage, GIMP and a pre-release version of Corel’s AfterShot Pro, across five system configurations and looks for patterns in the results including scaling based on GPU horsepower.

The Khronos Group just wrapped up another tour in Asia. Slides from the visit and a few photos are available online.
AMD announced continued leadership in driving OpenCL adoption with availability of the AMD APP SDK 2.7, featuring the first conformant implementation of OpenCL 1.2 and comprehensive support for C++.
The COLLADA working group would like to share their progress since the March GDC meet-up on making COLLADA robust for the community. As requested by many community members, the COLLADA Conformance Test Suite (CTS) will be open sourced. Also, the OpenCOLLADA project will receive catalyst funding from Khronos to fix outstanding bugs and commence the integration of OpenCOLLADA into the open source test suite. Both the COLLADA CTS and OpenCOLLADA will be moving to Github. The COLLADA work group invites you to sign-up on the COLLADA public mailing list, and give your feedback.
The COLLADA files loader in Minko 2 now provides much faster parsing times. Tests show some of files now take up to 10 times less time to load. You can now load 100+MB *.DAE files containing 600 000 polygons and more, including animations. Another important addition is that we now parse a lot more data about the materials. We are now able to load material values such as the reflectivity, shininess and more to make it easier for the artists to customize the rendering using their favorite CAO tool.
