Simulation Lab Software releases OSG Composer 1.2. an OpenGL interactive 3D scene editor. OSG Composer facilitates combining models from different CAD formats including: Rhino, IGES, STEP, Solidworks, SketchUp, 3DXML, FBX, 3DS, OBJ, U3D, and 3D PDF. This allows one to build advanced 3D scenes interactively, and to share those models in COLLADA, and PDF 3D formats while maintaining the assembly structure of the created scenes.
Petapath is actively using OpenCL for internal development purposes. “With only a single public Beta of a GPU OpenCL driver available it’s certainly early days for using OpenCL in earnest. Even the OpenCL forum at the Khronos Goup has a limited amount of traffic from users (but people who are working hard on OpenCL are definitely there to help).” says the Petapath website. Petapath is going to start posting comments and experiences they’ve had with OpenCL. Jon Peddie has issued a press release stating that 2010 will show the graphics industry making a spectacular comeback, after the dismal 2009 year. “Architectural changes like Intel’s Nehalem and new product introductions from AMD, ATI, Intel, and Nvidia are going to be disruptive to the status quo” says Jon Peddie. Snow Leopard and Windows 7 will also act as a catalyst to spur on the continuing expansion of GPGPU, otherwise known as GPU compute. OpenCL along with DirectX and NVIDIA’s CUDA will go even further in making the GPU a “serious, economical, and powerful coprocessor in all level of PCs.”

Electric Rain released Swift 3D 6.0 for Mac and Windows, a 3D modeling and animation tool. Swift 3D allows designers to build and export vector and raster-based 3D animations for Macromedia Flash, as well as QuickTime, AVI and other formats. Graphic Remedy is proud to announce the release of gDEBugger Version 5.2 for Windows, Mac OS X, iPhone and Linux. The new version adds a new Vertex Batch Statistics view to the gDEBugger Statistics viewer. OpenGL draw function calls are grouped by the number of vertices they push into the graphic pipeline, allowing the user to view and improve the ratio between API calls made and vertices drawn. In addition, the new release introduces OpenGL primitive performance counters, displaying the total number of render primitives and vertices drawn per frame, as well as a breakdown to the specific primitive types (points, lines and triangles). Version 5.2 also includes a public beta release of gDEBugger iPhone. gDEBugger iPhone runs on top of Apple’s iPhone Simulator, enabling developers to debug and optimize iPhone OpenGL ES-based applications within their primary work environment.
