Presto3D is the destination site for 3D artists looking to show off their 3D artwork. Now, Presto3D.com extends these frontiers by allowing 3D previews to be embedded anywhere on the web. Like YouTube, anyone can embed a preview of a 3D model on any website or blog. The preview will appear just as it does on Presto3D.com, and contain links back to other work by that artist. Unlike slower Flash-based or Java-based web solutions out there, Presto3D leverages OpenGL through its high-performance Feeling Engine to display rich COLLADA content including animated characters.
The COLLADA working group has extended it solicitation for bids for the improvement of the COLLADA Conformance Test Suite (COLLADA CTS). The conformance suite is a set of tests designed to confirm the conformance of a COLLADA Implementation. This call for bids is for the completion of this suite as specified in the attached statement of work.
Bidding is open to all interested parties. This call for bids opens on January 5, 2009. The deadline for submissions is now February 2nd, 2009.

Canvas 3D is a JavaScript library (C3DL) aimed at assisting in the development of browser-based interactive 3D graphics using JavaScript. First created by Mozilla’s Vladimir Vukićević, the latest release introduces support for loading COLLADA models.
‘Modern OpenGL: Its Design and Implementation slides’ which were presented at SIGGRAPH Asia 2008 for the ‘Modern OpenGL: Its Design and Evolution’ course, are now available online in PDF format from the Khronos Developer library. Mark Kilgard and Kurt Akeley explain OpenGL’s design and evolution.
Imagination Technologies announced POWERVR SGX543, the first graphics processor IP core based on Imagination’s extended POWERVR Series5XT architecture, which enables higher performance POWERVR SGX cores and multi-processor support. The SGX family now offers the ultimate scalability, ranging from the world’s smallest OpenGL™ ES 2.0 mobile core through solutions for performance mobile and HDTV, to high-performance gaming and computing solutions, confirming the ultimate scalability of the Series5 POWERVR SGX architecture.

Creative Technology Ltd. today announced the formation of ZiiLABS (a fully-owned subsidiary of Creative), with the combination of 3DLABS - which has a 25-year history as a leading innovator in programmable graphics, media and applications processing - and resources drawn from the largest product group in Creative, the Personal Digital Entertainment group. The formation of ZiiLABS, the launch of the new ZiiLABS ZMS-05 SoC (System-On-Chip) and the new Zii Platform today usher in the new era of StemCell Computing.
MPEG finalized the standardization of the 3D Graphics Compression Model as a new part of the MPEG-4 (ISO/IEC 14496-25 3D GCM). This specifies a generic architecture model able to connect compression tools developed by MPEG for 3D graphics primitives to any XML based representation of such primitives. Currently, the standard instantiates this model for three standards: XMT (ISO/IEC 14496-11), COLLADA (specified by Khronos Group), and X3D (ISO/IEC 19775:2004) by specifying the complete set of correspondences between the MPEG-4 compression tools and elements of these three standards.
The new content obtained by such combination is packaged into an ISO file format that is able to carry in a lossless manner the data structure expressed in XML while reducing the size of the original file by 50:1 and supporting geometry, texture and animation streaming. The reference software implementation, publicly available under ISO license, covers both encoder and decoders. MPEG-4 for 3D Graphics becomes a transparent layer, optimally designed for storage and transmission, and independent of production and consumption conditions.
