Join Our Next glTF Webinar

Thursday, October 28, 2021

Join us for this unique event where 3D developers and animators can meet up and learn how to get the most from using the glTF 3D format in their applications, products and tools. We have an exciting line-up of speakers who will be showcasing their use of glTF, as well as sharing advice on best practices and tools. We will conclude with an open “Ask the Experts” Q&A session.

This meet-up is an online live event and is FREE to attend. Registration is required to join and the event will use the Zoom Webinar platform.

  • Get All Your Questions Answered: Attendees will be able to post questions to our speakers throughout the live event, and at the concluding “Ask the Experts” session.
  • Don’t Miss Out: Join the 3D Formats Newsletter mailing list to hear about future events and receive the latest updates on glTF, KTX and the wider eco-system.

The event will follow the Khronos Conference Code to provide a harassment-free experience for everyone.

Start Time: 16:00 CET | 10:00 EST | 07:00 PST

Duration: Approx 120 mins

  • glTF Fast Forward – An Update from the Khronos Working Group
    • Brent Scannell, Autodesk and Khronos 3D Formats Working Group Chair
    • View Abstract In this talk Brent will provide updates on the latest developments, including insights into future directions, as well as highlighting how you can get involved in guiding the future direction of the standards. Brent will also be available to answer questions from the community.
  • Scaling up 3D Asset Creation for E-Commerce
    • Max Limper, DGG
      • How to create 3D base assets for CGI production and e-commerce, at scale
      • What 3D standards are involved and why work with 3D standards (such as glTF)?
      • What are real-time 3D assets and how can they be produced from high-quality 3D base assets?
      • How can we automate the production of real-time, 3D assets?
  • glTF and 3D Standardization in IKEA
    • Daniel Frith, IKEA
      • IKEA is known for producing outstanding images using 3D since 2010, today IKEA produces 3D content for their daily ways of working across the value chain, from developing the range to meeting the customer, from planning solutions to spatial computing, from images to real-time. In this session, hear how standardisation in 3D has become critical within IKEA to ensure consistency, efficiency and fulfil the business needs.
  • Using glTF to Build a Virtual Factory in a Highly Interdisciplinary Environment
    • Peter Kovacs, Institute for Computer Science and Control
    • View Abstract
      • The Virtual Learning Factory Toolkit (VLFT) project is a pioneering program commissioned by the European Union using virtual and augmented reality to enhance and improve engineering education programs across Europe. The Institute for Computer Science and Control, Politecnico di Milano and the National Research Council of Italy collaborated to implement a new innovative gamification VR app within the VLFT project. Software engineers, manufacturing engineers, professors, teachers, and 3D artists needed to work together efficiently to deliver the final product on time. These interdisciplinary circumstances implied the need for a common language between these diverse groups of the development team. The Khronos glTF file format for 3D scenes and models helped unite the different groups and disciplines in the VLFT VR Gamification Environment development team.
  • Case Study: glTF in GeoSpatial
    • Tamrat Belayneh, Esri
      • The Geospatial Industry has been forging ahead with adoption of standardized 3D formats such as glTF to advance 3D GIS in all platforms. In this case study we'll review glTFs impact in 3D geospatial context as well as aspects of KTX (in particular, the recently ratified KTX 2.0) that are relevant in streaming and distributing massive datasets in standards such as Indexed 3D Scene Layers (I3S) - an OGC community standard for streaming massive geospatial content. The webinar will showcase various use cases and applications highlighting these features in geospatial context.
      • With over 20 years of experience in 3D software development, Tam is lead author for Indexed 3D Scene Layer (I3S) OGC standard. Over his career, Tam has worked in advancing 3D graphics in the geospatial industry and has contributed as a 3d developer and engineer in various ArcGIS family of 3D products. Tam has authored and presented numerous articles and technical talks throughout the world including GTC, Siggraph, Foss4G and many other internationally recognized conferences. In the last few years, Tam has been focusing on using Machine Learning and Deep Learning in advancing 3d object recognition and mesh segmentation within a geospatial context.
  • Ask the Experts - An Open Q&A Session
    • Our panel of glTF experts will be available to answer questions put to them by attendees using the live Zoom Webinar Q&A feature. Don’t hold back. This is your opportunity to put your questions to members of the Khronos 3D Formats Working Group and other industry experts.
