How Open Standards are Driving Real-Time HMI, Vision & Safety-Critical Development

Speaker: Neil Trevett (Khronos Group President)
Date and Time: Thursday, April 7 | 8:00 am - 8:45 am

The pace of innovation in the automotive market is exceeded only by drivers’ appetite for new features and more sophisticated systems. Manufacturers are racing to bring reliable, intelligent automation to market, while also offering responsive, elegant graphics on vehicles’ visual systems. To enable this rapid technological transformation, the automotive industry needs open standards. The Khronos Group brings together hundreds of companies to develop royalty-free open standards. In this session, Neil Trevett, President of the Khronos Group, will discuss efforts to bring the Khronos open APIs for advanced GPU-accelerated graphics and vision acceleration to safety-critical applications such as automotive. Learn how the Vulkan 1.2 standard was adapted into Vulkan SC, a streamlined, deterministic specification that offers developers detailed control of GPU acceleration – allowing them to create applications that can be specified and tested to meet the ISO 26262 safety standard.

Trevett will also discuss exploratory efforts, both within Khronos and in cooperation with EMVA (European Machine Vision Association) to bring additional open standards to the automotive market. Learn about how the Exploratory Group for Embedded Cameras and Sensors is working to develop cross-vendors camera control APIs in order to decrease the cost of developing and integrating new camera and sensor technologies. We’ll also discuss the mission of the newly announced SYCL SC Exploratory Group, which will work to bring the SYCL vision acceleration API to safety critical applications. Learn how you can get involved in these development efforts and leverage open APIs to build next-generation automotive experiences.
