gDEBugger V5.1 Adds VBO data viewing - OpenGL ES debugger and profiler

The new gDEBugger V5.1 adds the ability to view Vertex Buffer Objects (VBOs) data. The Textures and Buffers viewer Data View tab displays the selected VBO's data in a spreadsheet. The user can select the displayed data format, offset and stride. gDEBugger, an OpenGL and OpenGL ES debugger and profiler, traces application activity on top of the OpenGL API, lets programmers see what is happening within the graphic system implementation to find bugs and optimize OpenGL application performance. gDEBugger runs on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux operating systems.

NVIDIA to host the first GPU Technology Conference

NVIDIA Corporation announced that its inaugural GPU Technology Conference will take place September 30 to October 2, 2009. The event will focus on how developers, engineers, and researchers are using the GPU to solve the world’s most important computing challenges. The conference will encompass three simultaneous events -- the Emerging Companies Summit, the GPU Developer Summit, and the NVIDIA Research Summit. The GPU Developer Summit will be a 3-day series of technical presentations, tutorials and panels aimed at developers of consumer, professional and high performance computing applications looking to exploit more of the GPU’s parallel processing power using industry-standard languages such as C/C++ and Fortran as well as APIs such as Direct3D, DirectX Compute, OpenCL™ and OpenGL.

Khronos at Siggraph 2009 - OpenGL BoF announced

Siggraph 2009 in New Orleans is fast approaching, and Khronos has started to update its events page. Just added are the date and time for the OpenGL Birds of a Feather (BoF) get-together at Siggraph 2009. Be sure to mark on your calendar Wednesday, August 5th 2009, between 4pm and 6pm in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, Room 264.

Apples Snow Leopard promises System Wide support for COLLADA

On the Apple OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Enhancements and Refinements page, under System Wide Digital Asset Exchange support there is a easily overlooked mention of COLLADA. Users of COLLADA and the file format .dae will be please to see that Preview, OS X's lightway graphic viewer application, will display .dae files with OpenGL-powered 3D graphics. You will be able to zoom and rotate around a 3D scene and play viewpoint animations. There is a good discussion about this over at idevgames.com

The Khronos Group will be attending Siggraph again this year, and have announced 3 BOF's. This year Khronos will be hosting another OpenGL BOF, an OpenCL and a COLLADA BOF. Although the discount registration period is over, Siggraph is offering to those who are unemployed, a special discount in order to help offset the current economic conditions. OSG Composer breaks barriers between COLLADA and CAD

Simulation Lab Software releases OSG Composer 1.2. an OpenGL interactive 3D scene editor. OSG Composer facilitates combining models from different CAD formats including: Rhino, IGES, STEP, Solidworks, SketchUp, 3DXML, FBX, 3DS, OBJ, U3D, and 3D PDF. This allows one to build advanced 3D scenes interactively, and to share those models in COLLADA, and PDF 3D formats while maintaining the assembly structure of the created scenes.

The Khronos Group has posted the outline for all three of their BOFs. Representatives from AMD, Intel and NVIDIA will be presenting at the OpenCL BOF. COLLADA has a large line-up of presenters covering many topics. The OpenGL BOF will have OpenGL news from Barthold Lichtenbelt, ARB / NVIDIA, a presenter from Mozilla will talk about '3D on the Web, OpenGL ES in JavaScript', as well as an Open GL ES update and much more.
