The Khronos Group is a not for profit industry consortium creating open standards for the authoring and acceleration of parallel computing, graphics, dynamic media, computer vision and sensor processing on a wide variety of platforms and devices. All Khronos members are able to contribute to the development of Khronos API specifications, are empowered to vote at various stages before public deployment, and are able to accelerate the delivery of their cutting-edge 3D platforms and applications through early access to specification drafts and conformance tests.

OpenMAX multimedia framework explained and illustrated

Fakhir Ansari of Mentor graphics has written an article explaining and illustrating how the new Multimedia framework OpenMAX works and fits into your workflow. The OpenMAX cross-platform API enables accelerated multimedia components from different software vendors to be developed, integrated, and programmed across multiple operating systems and silicon platforms. The OpenMAX standard is made up of three levels, OpenMAX AL (Application Level), OpenMAX IL (Integration Level ) and OpenMAX DL (Development Level). OpenMAX is defined by The Khronos Group and is a new standard, but has already been embraced by several companies.
