The Khronos Group - Media Authoring and Acceleration

The Khronos Group is a not for profit industry consortium creating open standards for the authoring and acceleration of parallel computing, graphics and dynamic media on a wide variety of platforms and devices. All Khronos members are able to contribute to the development of Khronos API specifications, are empowered to vote at various stages before public deployment, and are able to accelerate the delivery of their cutting-edge 3D platforms and applications through early access to specification drafts and conformance tests.

DATE: July 20-23, 2009
LOCATION: Washington DC
EVENT URL: http://www.techsoupcorp.com/courses/opengl3.html

Topics include:

  • OpenGL 3 and the OpenGL Shading Language
  • 3D graphics concepts and programming techniques
  • Maximizing performance for current graphics hardware
  • Strategies for porting from OpenGL 1 and 2 to OpenGL 3

This four-day course teaches the fundamentals of OpenGL 3. Developers attending the course learn the mechanisms behind fast, efficient, modern 3D graphics on current graphics hardware. Through instruction and labs, students take a triangle from concept to screen, learn how to access buffered data, move data to and from graphics hardware, add textures and lights, and use the OpenGL Shading Language for additional rendering effects. Students learn how to ensure backward and forward compatibility in a cross-platform environment. Instruction is hands-on with numerous labs, where students turn concepts into practical knowledge.

Students are required to bring their own computers. Supported platforms include Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. All attendees receive electronic copies of labs and example software.
