The Khronos Group - Connecting Software to Silicon

The Khronos Group is a not for profit industry consortium creating open standards for the authoring and acceleration of parallel computing, graphics, dynamic media, computer vision and sensor processing on a wide variety of platforms and devices. All Khronos members are able to contribute to the development of Khronos API specifications, are empowered to vote at various stages before public deployment, and are able to accelerate the delivery of their cutting-edge 3D platforms and applications through early access to specification drafts and conformance tests.

The WebCL API is currently being standardized by Khronos, which provides a JavaScript binding for the Khronos OpenCL API, to enable significant cross-platform acceleration of compute intensive Web applications. WebCL further promotes ubiquitous implementation for usages such as, augmented reality, video processing, computational photography and gaming, across heterogeneous systems, including mobile platforms. The WebCL API allows Web application developers to benefit from native acceleration of applications, through parallelization of heterogeneous systems. During the meet up, the WebCL working group chair, editors and contributors will provide tutorial, demos, and status update of the WebCL API standardization, implementation, applications and utilities.

The schedule for the discussions is as follows:

      • WebCL tutorial, demos and coding examples.
      • WebCL use case: Big Data Visualization (presentation and demo).
      • WebCL standardization: Status and roadmap.
      • WebCL API: Security requirements and provisions.
      • OpenCL to WebCL translator utility.
      • Experimental integration of WebCL prototypes into browser engines.
      • Questions and Answers.
