Google has acquired DrawElements, a Finland-based company that specializes in software used for GPU benchmarking and testing. DrawElements' main product is DrawElements Quality Program (dEQP), which is used to measure the quality of GPUs and their drivers, while also focusing on related work with OpenGL ES 2.0 drivers and software rasterizers. The dEQP suite is a toolkit used to benchmark the accuracy, precision, feature conformance and stability of OpenGL ES and OpenCL GPUs.
If you work in graphics, you live and die by your tools. if you work in graphics for the web, this means Chrome or Firefox developer tools. Join the Khronos Toronto Chapter to discuss and learn about the latest web tools in Firefox and Chrome for WebGL and WebCL. For OpenGL folks there'll be a discussion to compare web graphics tools to native graphics tools.
The Graphical Web 2014 is being organised by the Data Visualisation Centre, UK Office for National Statistics and will be held at the University of Winchester, England over 4 days from Wednesday August 27th through to Saturday August 30th. The theme of the conference will be Visual Storytelling using new technology to produce compelling visual narratives on the web. Neil Trevett will be giving a State of the Union address on WebGL and WebCL, as well the Khronos Group will be sponsoring this event.
Boost.Compute is a header-only C++ library for GPGPU and parallel-computing based on OpenCL. This proposed library for Boost is available on GitHub and instructions for getting started can be found in the documentation. Are you interested in Parallel Computing? The Boost.Compute project is currently looking for additional developers. Boost.Compute is not yet an official Boost library.
There is a certain category of wearables and IoT devices that require advanced graphics and video processing alongside the sensors, connectivity and general-purpose processors; these devices feature displays and need to run multimedia-rich apps that require smooth OpenGL ES graphics. PowerVR GX5300 is designed to address the ultra-low power requirements of wearables. Whereas previous generation smartwatches could render graphics using a software-only approach or a simple 2D engine, newer wearable devices require fully featured GPUs to drive higher resolution user interfaces. PowerVR GX5300 can comfortably drive 480p and 720p resolutions representative of modern smartwatches, while offloading the main CPU and reducing software complexity.
The AR Community for Open and Interoperable Augmented Reality Experiences will be holding a face-to-face community meeting on September 12 in Munich, Germany. The F2F meetings are designed to promote discussion among ecosystem stakeholders for the development of open and interoperable AR content and experiences. We will receive updates about standards under development from Standards Development Organization spokepeople and Work Group chairs from The Khronos Group and many other organizations. In order to plan the agenda of the September 2014 AR Community meeting to target the needs of the community, participants are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to prepare and submit speaking abstracts and/or position papers. Community meeting position paper guidelines are available online.
