Applications for Life Company released Box Shot 3D 3.4, an update to their powerful utility that digitally “shoots” virtual 3D objects. Box Shot 3D allows you to render software boxes, book covers, magazines, CD, DVD and Blu-Ray boxes, cans, bottles, mugs, bags and much more. No 3D-knowledge is required at all and the results look very professional because of raytracing rendering technology. The new release brings COLLADA format import support.
Open Source Project for Animated COLLADA models in XNA 4 aims to be an alternative to the built-in XNA Model class that is able to load animated 3D models from XML based COLLADA files.

Khronos has posted slide presentations from GDC 2011 online. Included in the DevU presentations are COLLADA, Mobile, OpenCL, OpenVG and WebGL.
K-3D is free-as-in-freedom 3D modeling and animation software. It features a plugin-oriented procedural engine for all of its content, making K-3D a very versatile and powerful package. K-3D excels at polygonal modeling, and includes basic tools for NURBS, patches, curves and animation.
Mirye Software announces Shade 12, the powerful modeling, animation and rendering platform for Windows and Mac OS X . Shade 12 features a powerful, enhanced renderer that can make use of multiple cores and network rendering using ShadeGrid nodes. New features include new preview options including GLSL Phong rendering (with OpenGL 2 support), fast preview rendering and preview stereoscopic 3D, COLLADA Import and Export Options.
Khronos has announced a quick reference card for WebGL 1.0 release spec. This adds to the collection of Reference Cards already available for other Khronos APIs: OpenGL, OpenCL, OpenVG, OpenMAX, OpenSL ES, COLLADA and OpenWF
The Khronos™ Group today announced that it is making the COLLADA™ 1.4 Conformance Test Suite available free of charge to all developers. COLLADA is an open, XML-based industry standard that enables assets to be freely interchanged between 3D authoring applications which can then be mixed and matched in powerful combinations. The COLLADA test suite is a comprehensive set of over 500 detailed tests and a scripted framework that rigorously exercises applications that import and export COLLADA assets to ensure that they can reliably participate in a COLLADA-based toolchain.
