Imagination Technologies is demonstrating a POWERVR SGX GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) with accelerated Adobe Flash® Lite™ technology utilising OpenVG at MWC 2009 in Barcelona this week at Imagination's stand Hall 2 #2A05. "This demonstration, the latest product of the strong relationship between Imagination and Adobe, shows the value of OpenVG acceleration for Flash Lite, the key Flash technology for mobile devices such as phones and portable media players." says Tony King-Smith, VP marketing, Imagination Technologies.
Imagination Technologies today announced the first in a new family of scalable vector graphics processor IP cores - the POWERVR™ VGX150. The POWERVR VXG150 extends the reach of Imagination’s graphics IP to entry level handsets and developing markets. The POWERVR VGX architecture provides native acceleration of all functionality in OpenVG 1.1, the vector graphics API developed by the Khronos group, offloading virtually all processing from the CPU to deliver high-performance acceleration. Through full support of the OpenVG 1.1 API stack, VGX150 enables full high performance acceleration of all OpenVG applications such as SVG players, Flash Lite™ 3 and Flash™ 7 players as well as native OpenVG content. It achieves extremely low power consumption while requiring very small silicon area for high quality graphical user interface, browser and navigation experiences based on vector graphics.

The Khronos™ Group announced today the formation of a new Compute Working Group to create royalty-free, open standards for programming heterogeneous data and task parallel computing across GPUs and CPUs. The creation of this open standard is intended to enable and encourage diverse applications to leverage all available platform compute resources on a wide range of platforms.
AMD has reached a new milestone in the mobile graphics industry becoming the first 3D graphics technology provider to achieve OpenGL® ES 2.0 conformance certification. AMD OpenGL ES 2.0 mobile graphics technology, which will be included in AMD processors, is based on the same AMD Unified Shader Architecture powering the Microsoft® Xbox 360™ video game console. OpenGL ES 2.0 enables rapid rendering of cutting-edge 3D graphics for a variety of consumer electronics devices. The AMD OpenGL ES 2.0 implementation achieved conformance when they met key feature requirements while being rigorously tested and reviewed by the Khronos Group, the independent industry consortium responsible for the development, promotion and certification of the OpenGL ES standard.
On february 19th, Neil Trevett, President of The Khronos Group, gave a presentation at the 2008 Game Developers Conference. Of all the presentations given Neil's "Strategic Briefing: Khronos Mobile Graphics Ecosystem" presentation came in at fourth place of the five most highly rated GDC MOBILE 2008 talks. The Khronos Group is a member-funded industry consortium focused on the creation of open standard APIs to enable the authoring and playback of dynamic media on a wide variety of platforms and devices, including OpenGL, OpenKODE, OpenMAX and many more.
The free iPhone SDK released to the public contains OpenGL ES. SuperMonkeyBall and Spore are already ported and they run great.
