Khronos Group announced OpenSL ES a new 3D audio specification for mobile phone and mobile OS

The Khronos Group today announced OpenSL ES, a new 3D audio specification to bring advanced sound capabilities to any mobile phone or mobile operating system. Companies announcing support of the new standard at launch include Google and SRS. Khronos Seoul DevU presentation slides now available online

The Khronos Group just wrapped up another DevU, this time in Seoul. Presentations slides from all the sessions are now online. Some of the Khronos APIs covered at this DevU were OpenGL ES, OpenCL, OpenGL, OpenGL SC, OpenVG and OpenMAX and OpenSL ES by AMD, ARM, DMP, DrawElements, HUONE, NVIDIA, Rightware and Samsung and Takumi. Khronos Group prepares for SIGGRAPH ASIA 2010 DevU

The Khronos Group is hosting a Khronos Developer University co-located with SIGGRAPH Asia. Numerous Khronos members have joined together with each member taking a demonstration suite to create a large number of exciting demos in the Khronos Pavilion on the SIGGRAPH trade show floor. OpenSL ES workgroup announces OpenSL ES version 1.0.1 has been released

The OpenSL ES workgroup is pleased to announce that OpenSL ES version 1.0.1 has been released and is available for download. The update to the specification includes clarifications and minor bug fixes. Among the bug fixes are adjustments to make sure that OpenSL ES is aligned with OpenMAX AL 1.0. The OpenSL ES 1.0.1 specification is available in the Khronos public registry here (pdf), and the header files are available here.

Khronos Group Releases OpenSL ES 1.0 Specification for Portable Mobile and Embedded Audio Processing

The Khronos™ Group is pleased to announce that it has publicly released the OpenSL ES™ 1.0 specification, a royalty-free, cross-platform C-language API for high-performance, low-latency audio functionality on mobile and embedded devices. The OpenSL ES standard simplifies deployment of hardware and software audio capabilities across any platform or operating system and provides broad audio portability for application developers. The specifications are immediately available for download and may be used royalty-free by implementers and developers. An Adopters Program for OpenSL ES including extensive conformance tests to ensure cross-implementation consistency and trademark usage by conformant implementations will be released by Khronos during April 2009.

Khronos Group GDC schedule updated

The Khronos Group has announced a detailed schedule of the upcoming Developers University session at this years Game Developers Conference 2009. This all day session will teach you about cross-platform APIs for advanced graphics and media acceleration. The Khronos Session will cover four major topics, OpenCL, OpenGL, COLLADA and the Khronos Mobile API Ecosystem:

  • OpenGL 3.1 - a streamlining of the OpenGL API that also adds cutting edge acceleration functionality
  • OpenCL 1.0 - portable heterogenous parallel computing that works smoothly with OpenGL to open a new world of visual computing opportunities
  • OpenSL ES 1.0 - an API for enhanced mobile audio that forms the final piece of the Khronos mobile ecosystem
  • Accelerated 3D for the Web - a new initiative spearheaded by Mozilla with Khronos to bring dynamic 3D graphics to web content everywhere.
