Developer Slides from the Khronos Asian Tour now available
Presentation slides from the Khronos Asian Tour have been posted on the Khronos Group website. Slides include those from the Khronos Games Conference DevU and the OpenCL 1.2 press conference. Khronos Members will have access to additional slides from the Korean and Japanese member meetings.
Android releases updated NDK adding OpenMAX AL and OpenSL ES APIs
Android released an updated version of the Android NDK bringing it to revision 7. "Android NDK r7 includes a number of build system improvements and bug fixes, but most importantly it gives you access to two new sets of APIs", wrote Xavier Ducrohet on the Android Developers Blog. The two new Khronos Group APIs are: OpenMAX AL 1.0.1 for Low-level streaming multimedia, which provides a direct, efficient path for low-level streaming multimedia; and OpenSL ES used for audio decoding into PCM. Android 4 offers new OpenMAX AL API support for low-level streaming multimedia
Google's recently announced Android 4.0 platform, and related Ice Cream Sandwich SDK, include many new media capabilities. One very nice addition is the introduction for low-level streaming multimedia. To support this low-level streaming, the platform introduces a new native API based on the Khronos OpenMAX AL 1.0.1 API. This API is implemented on the same underlying services as the platform’s existing OpenSL ES API, so developers can make use of both APIs together if needed. Tools support for low-level streaming multimedia will be available in an upcoming release of the Android NDK. Learn more about OpenMAX AL on the Khronos Group website.
SRS Labs and Qualcomm sign licensing agreement to bring HD-quality audio to mobile devices
Qualcomm has licensed SRS Labs’ industry-leading audio APIs, including SRS’ OpenSL ES and OpenAL audio API solutions for mobile devices. “This agreement with Qualcomm is a significant step forward in cementing our worldwide leadership in mobile audio enhancement solutions,” said Bob Lyle, managing director of global business development for SRS Labs, Inc.
2011 GDC Presentation slides from Khronos DevU now online
Khronos has posted slide presentations from GDC 2011 online. Included in the DevU presentations are COLLADA, Mobile, OpenCL, OpenVG and WebGL.

Khronos Releases OpenMAX AL Specification for Application-level Video, Audio & Image Processing
The Khronos Group today announced OpenMAX AL, a video and multimedia specification for mobile devices that supports any and all mobile devices, phones and operating systems. Nokia announced support of the standard at launch, with other companies actively developing around the new specification. The full specification and header files are available in the Khronos Registry, as well, a Quick Reference card is available for immediate download.
Khronos Seoul DevU presentation slides now available online
The Khronos Group just wrapped up another DevU, this time in Seoul. Presentations slides from all the sessions are now online. Some of the Khronos APIs covered at this DevU were OpenGL ES, OpenCL, OpenGL, OpenGL SC, OpenVG and OpenMAX and OpenSL ES by AMD, ARM, DMP, DrawElements, HUONE, NVIDIA, Rightware and Samsung and Takumi.
