The Khronos Group just wrapped up a DevU and press luncheon in Beijing. Presentations slides from all the sessions are now online. Some of the Khronos APIs covered at this DevU were OpenGL ES, OpenCL, OpenGL, OpenVG and OpenMAX and OpenSL ES by Vivante, ARM, Rightware, HUONE and NVIDIA. A complete schedule of events is available in our event archives.
ARM has announced the ARM® Mali™-300 graphics processing unit (GPU), supporting OpenGL® ES 2.0 and bringing High Definition (HD) graphics performance to entry-level and mid-range consumer devices. The Mali-300 GPU offers support for the Khronos industry standards OpenVG™ 1.1, and OpenGL® ES 1.1/2.0, in common with other ARM Mali GPUs.
Imagination Technologies demonstrates the capabilities of the OpenVG 1.1 API on their POWERVR SGX and POWERVR VGX IP Cores, in a short video.
Digital Media Professionals Inc. announced that they have licensed the SMAPH-F, the latest OpenVG1.1 compliant graphics IP core to Renesas Electronics Corporation, for use in its next-generation system-on-chip (SoC) for consumer applications. The full press release is available in English and Japanese.
MIPS Technologies, Inc. and Digital Media Professionals Inc. (DMP) announced that DMP has become a member of the MIPS Alliance Program for its Android™ on MIPS initiative. The alliance will ultimately enable SoC developers to create MIPS-Based™ SoCs with DMP PICA/SMAPH series graphics IP cores. DMP’s OpenGL ES and OpenVG graphics IP cores including its PICA/SMAPH series cores are developed for high performance and low power embedded applications, fulfilling the increasing need for visually-rich user interfaces in products running Android.
Vivante and Animated Media Partner to Offer Embedded Flash Solutions Optimized for Vivante OpenGL ES
Vivante Corporation and Animated Media Inc. are combining Vivante's OpenGL ES 2.0 accelerated pipeline with AMI's VGK platform. The VGK platform consists of a collection of integrated software tools that extend Adobe's Flash product functionality by allowing the technology to operate in a wide variety of systems, from low-power embedded devices to high-end 3D computers. This will enable sophisticated UI tools to be used in embedded systems such as cameras, mobile devices, games, eReaders, netbooks, Set Top Boxes (STBs), home entertainment products, and toys. Vivante delivers silicon proven, industry leading graphics conformant with the OpenGL ES 2.0/1.1 and OpenVG API standards.
ALT Software, an embedded graphics leader won the contract to develop OpenGL ES and Open VG device drivers for POWERVR SGX graphics IP core in next-generation System on Chip processor designed for high performance in power constrained devices. ALT Software has been developing OpenGL and Safety-Critical 2D and 3D solutions since 1994.
Qt Labs Blog is doing a series on Graphics and Performance of Qt. The first of the series is an overview of the whole painter, pixmaps, widgets, graphicsview, backingstore idea. Reasons for using the Khronos family of APIs is included for OpenGL and OpenVG.
ALT Software has released optimized OpenGL ES 1.1 and OpenVG 1.1 graphics drivers for Imagination Technologies POWERVR MBX graphics core. The drivers are designed to work on Wind River’s VxWorks and Wind River Linux operating systems.
Nokia has released Version 4.6 of its Qt cross-platform application and UI framework. Key performance improvements include an optimized, re-written Qt GraphicsView rendering algorithm, a new OpenGL paint engine and 2D vector graphic support using OpenVG. Qt 4.6 includes support for the Symbian platform for the first time, and adds Windows 7, Apple Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard), and the upcoming Maemo 6 to the list of Qt-supported platforms.
