DMP announced a two day getting start GLSL Programming training course. The OpenGL ES roadmap has been tailored to the diverse needs of the embedded industry and contains two tracks with "1.X" and "2.X" specification roadmaps that will evolve in parallel. The 1.X roadmap will continue to be developed for new-generation fixed function 3D accelerators while the 2.X roadmap will enable emerging programmable 3D pipelines.This course introduce the world of programmable pipeline by explaining basic topics of the GLSL(OpenGL Shading Language) which is a core feature of OpenGL ES 2.x and OpenGL 2.x. N-Sided releases new COLLADA Export plug-in for QUIDAM

N-Sided wanted QUIDAM creations to be to be exportable in COLLADA, so they released a plugin to do just that. COLLADA is the best bridge for several major applications such as Softimage XSI and Blender already. The COLLADA export plug-in completes a wide range of already existing QUIDAM exports. Characters can now be exported in COLLADA at the resolution of your choice. All exports are ready to be animated, with textures, bones and skinning weights from low poly count to highly detailed meshes. Read More

Horde3D Physics Library Integration

The Horde3D Physics Library Integration project has a small library connecting Bullet Physics Engine to the Horde3D Graphics Engine. A small sample application and example are included with the source code. The source also contains patch for the Horde3D Engine version 0.11 COLLADA Converter allowing usage of basic features of the COLLADA Physics extension. Read More

ArcSoft, Inc. recently announced that ArcSoft TotalMedia(TM) Mobile multimedia software applications have been integrated in NXP's Nexperia cellular system solution 5210 family for 2.5G/2.75G cellular feature phones. The ArcSoft TotalMedia(TM) Mobile software applications are pre-integrated in the 5210 family. Providing an OpenMax IL interface, the ArcSoft solution includes a media organizer, photo album and viewer, camera and camcorder, photo and video editor, and streaming-capable multimedia player. Symbian plans multimedia standards and bearer mobility with Khronos API’s

Symbian, the consortium that develops the mobile operating system of the same name, plans to add in APIs for multimedia applications, a bearer mobility capability and technology for greater code density on ARM processors to the OS over the next 18 months. Two of the multimedia APIs come from the Khronos Group, OpenSL ES and OpenMAX IL, said Andy Moran, head of enterprise at the London-based company. Symbian intends to implement OpenGL ES, another Khronos Group API for full-function 2D and 3D graphics, enabling mobile TV, videoclips on a phone and so on. Read More

Khronos Group Releases OpenMAX AL 1.0 and OpenSL ES 1.0 Specifications for Embedded Media and Audio Processing

The Khronos™ Group has publicly released provisional versions of the OpenMAX™ AL 1.0 and OpenSL ES™ 1.0 specifications to enable widespread developer feedback and rapid industry implementation of these new standards that are designed to bring portable, state-of-the-art audio, video and image acceleration to mobile handsets and embedded devices. AMD OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenVG 1.0 technologies coming to a Freescale i.MX processor near you

AMD today announced Freescale Semiconductor will license its 2D and 3D graphics technology. Freescale Semiconductor will use the AMD graphics technologies to equip its i.MX processors with OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenVG 1.0 technologies. OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenVG technologies are designed for mobile applications where battery life is key, including portable gaming, navigation and media player devices. Read More

Blender 2.45 Release Candidate 2

The folks at Blender.org have announced Release Candidate 2.45 of Blender. Even better news is we can apparently expect a full release of Blender next week. Although Blender 2.45 is only a bugfix release to stabilize the 2.4x series and no new feature have been added, serious effort has been put in to tracking bugs and fixing them, as well as some performance issues getting addressed. Some of the more important fixes were FBX export now works for armature/poses, fixes in Collada export and shadow calculation bug fixes. Read More

ARM releases OpenMAX DL libraries for AAC and H.264 decoding

ARM, the microprocessor intellectual property (IP) company, specialising in RISC processors and system-on-a-chip (SoC), has made available OpenMAX DL API libraries for the decoding of AAC audio format and H.264 video format. These libraries are optimised to take advantage of the SIMD instruction set found in ARM Cortex-A8 and ARM11 series processors. ARM also announced its goal to add more optimized OpenMAX DL functions for MP3, JPEG and MPEG-4 decode. Read More
