Maybe it's none of CPU's business

The answer depends entirely on who is implementing the software. AMD's CPU implementation supports some Intel CPUs (I think you need SSSE3 or later, but I'm not sure). Apple's implementation supports all the Intel CPUs they've shipped. Intel hasn't released one yet so no one knows what they will support.

For the AMD-Driver every CPU supporting SSE3 is supported. You don't need a supported graphics card.
Didn't try that for the Nvidia-Driver but I think it is the same.

NVIDIA doesnt have a cpu implementation of OpenCL, I have tried this with latest NV195.x drivers
see also http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=151717

As your likely not the only one wanting a cpu implementation there might be hope that NVIDIA will
follow AMD and provide a decent cpu implementation.
