    OpenML sample implementation

A while ago the dmSDK source was removed from SGI's open source projects site. Is work being done converting it to a ML Digital Media I/O API implementation? An OpenML sample implementation with a liberal license similar to SGI's OpenGL sample implementation would be nice.

IMHO OpenML would be great for Linux and other free *NIX operating systems, but if the waiting is too long (as e.g. with Motif, which still isn't really free, though lesstif is) it may not find general acceptance.

So, will there be a OpenML sample implementation? and if so, when can it be expected?

Also when will a revision of the specification with support for buffers that are not in main memory be out?

    Re: OpenML sample implementation

An OpenML sample implementation is being made available to Khronos members. At this point the OpenML SI is not open source, and we have not determined if it will be open sourced in the future.

As to support for buffers that are not in the main memory, once the spec is released (NAB 2003?), revisions will start being implemented.

Heh, so then it's not really open is it? Seems like we need to get a open-source version in the works asap(based on the Sgi dmSdk)

Maybe the guys at Mesa would be interested in starting this up?

Think of it more like OpenGL at this point. So it is an open API, but not Open Source. Once the SDK is out, who knows what the Mesa folks will achieve....

You can still get the dmSDK implementation from the SGI web-site. It's not linked from the front page, but it's still there.
