    Re: OpenCL Failing At Conditionals

    Yeah, that's what gave me the 512 I was basing it on.

    I tried lowering it to a 2x2 workgroup and I was still having issues (this was just today) and I was able to fix it by changing all my doubles...

    Re: OpenCL Failing At Conditionals

    UPDATE:
    So as in my previous post, I had to drop DPFP with the ATI card, as the 6850 doesn't support it. I also had to change the number of work groups because the max WG size of my old ass Nvidia...

    Re: OpenCL Failing At Conditionals

    6850
    Device Version:

    OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (923.1)
    Driver Version:

    CAL 1.4.1720

    So seeing as the cl_khr_fp64 (or any DPFP for that matter) extension should exist in versions passed OpenCL...

    Re: OpenCL Failing At Conditionals

    Well I have some fortunate / unfortunate news.

    I went on Craigslist and picked up a ATI Radeon 6850 for $80, figuring that it's newer than my GTX280 and I could get it cheap second hand I thought...

    Re: OpenCL Failing At Conditionals

    I hear you. I understand the skepticism that I'm not describing the entire problem, or I'm leaving out info that I don't think is vital.

    IMO, according to the C99 spec, it shouldn't matter how...

    Re: OpenCL Failing At Conditionals

    So in short, Nvidia's OpenCL implementation blows and I should have been using CUDA?

    EDIT:
    And there's no fix or anything? They're just random errors...?

    BTW: In case it matters any I'm on...

    OpenCL Failing At Conditionals

    This doesn't crash:

    if ((z >= attributes[18] ) && (y < 1 + .05))

    If I remove the first part of that..this crashes:

    if ((y < 1 + .05))

    So, attributes[18] is like 10 or something, z is a...

    Re: Structs Into Kernel?

    Alright, I'll look at the memory alignment and use CL types and see what I come up with. Thanks.

    Re: Structs Into Kernel?

    Yeah, it should work fine :-\.
  10. Re: Kernel Memory Error (illegal access inside kernel) - why

    I ended up fixing the bug exactly as you described, I created a function in the host code to naively convert it to 1D, and these particular issues seemed to go away.

    Yeah, I guess the pointer...

    Structs Into Kernel?

    This seems like a relatively simple question, but I've sourced out pages on Google that says it is OK to do so, and I've sourced out pages that says it's NOT. Which is it, in short?

    OBVIOUSLY,...
  12. Re: Kernel Memory Error (illegal access inside kernel) - why

    Just another note (it won't let me edit that post again :():

    cell a;
    ***cellGrid = a;
    inside the CL code works.

    cell a;
    cellGrid[0][0]->value = 10
    crashes.
  13. Kernel Memory Error (illegal access inside kernel) - why?

    The code inside my kernel has been tested in a single threaded environment (it was part of a doubly nested for loop).

    The 'object' that the kernel should be operating on is a triple pointer to a...

    Re: OpenCL Newb Here - OpenCL Scoping

    Yeah, I've read about the get_global_id() method of indexing before, that's the way the tutorial showed it too.

    Should be fine with the 16 byte deals, the code I'm parallelizing uses doubles, so...

    Re: OpenCL Newb Here - OpenCL Scoping

    So any common structs that the kernel wants to access can be defined in a header file common to both?

    Hopefully I won't need to worry about structure padding :(. Never dealt with it before, I'd...

    OpenCL Newb Here - OpenCL Scoping

    I was just designing my first 'major' OpenCL program and was wondering about scoping.

    Now the spec says that the CL code is Ansi C, which is fine, but seeing as the file is just cracked open and...

    Re: OpenCL newb - OpenCL crashing :(

    Okay, I fixed it.

    Wow, spent a whole week in the labs jerking off with this simple code and 20 minutes on my Ubuntu box with a real compiler and I have the issue flushed out.

    Thank God for g++...

    Hrm, you're probably right, but it's like the first tutorial on Google, so it probably got some good thumb-ups :-\.

    OpenCL newb - OpenCL crashing :(

    Hey,

    I'm very new to OpenCL, still trying to get a handle on all the boiler plate stuff here for setting up the context and kicking off the kernel. What I'm working on is a parallel ray tracer...
