Now Watching: 3dsMax-FX Composer COLLADA workflow with HLSL shaders

The video illustrates how 3ds Max can be inserted into a COLLADA workflow where FX Composer is used for the illumination stage.

The first section shows a FX COLLADA file containing animation loaded into 3ds Max. Animation of objects and cameras are maintained. A simple HLSL shader is applied to a mesh object. The file is then saved from 3ds Max and reloaded into FX Composer. The Cg shaders are unchanged and the HLSL shaders are also maintained from 3dsMax to FX Composer.

The second section illustrates modifications of existing HLSL shaders into 3ds Max which are maintained in FX Composer. A complete FX COLLADA scene is loaded into 3ds Max. An HLSL shader is modified along with some geometry. The scene is saved as a COLLADA file. This is then reloaded into FX Composer. The HLSL modifications are visible along with the geometry changes.
